View Full Version : Feeling Rejected Lately?

Every so often we hear a story about publishers refusing to
accept "manuscripts" by famous authors. Some practical joker submits a typescript of a classic in order to catch an editor in the act of rejecting each and every submission arriving "over the transom" without bothering to read a word.
The latest author to be stiffed is none other than. . .
Jane Austen! (I read this earlier in the week on MediaBistro.)

Editors in this not uncommon situation either are too dumb to recognize an established manuscript or--more likely -- see the ruse for what it is: a stunt designed to beat them in their own game, to sting them. Either way the practical joke underlines the frustration that "unknown" writers face every day. (I might add that yours truly is "unknown" through no fault of her own.)

The other thing I want to say to my fellow unsung geniuses is that we are in distinguished company, well, at
least in the same league of someone high up the gov'ment.
Our current Secretary of State wrote an essay about Lebanon which was roundly rejected by at least three important publications. Why was she given the shaft? It was either animosity toward Condi , or her writing sucks.
The point is -- sometimes when you submit a manuscript, even having a well-known name doesn't help!

Keep writing anyway!

If this isn't grounds for depression, I don't know what is. I always have the fear that my manuscript will not really be read. However, I will keep submitting.
