I guess I'm not an avid reader. I read mainly to an utilitarian end. Facts, information, numbers, data. But, shortly I will be influencing a little one and I want to be able to impart upon him or her the beauty inside books. Because despite my penchant for non-fiction, I have peered behind the curtain and looked at what lies beyond. Books are a good place to start, I think.

I have read one single book that I can honestly say I enjoyed reading (remember I usually only read to glean information) and that was 1984 . Besides this book my reading is either to learn how to do something or to feign bookishness by reading three pages and then forgetting to return the book to the library.

Bottom line, I want to learn how to find books I like. I found 1984 but it was a needle in a haystack. So that's why I am here.

Welcome to the Forum, Sierpinsky. I wish I could make myself more useful, but the truth is, while there are surely people here who can help you, what first must be known is what it was about 1984 that appealed to you.

Welcome! Perhaps you can look into other Orwellian classics, Animal Farm is very popular.

I have read Animal Farm, it just did not seem to resonate as well with me. But Jamesian, I am having a difficult time articulating why I like 1984 so much. I think I'll read it again and take a closer look. Who knows, maybe because I am in a different point in my life I won't even like it as much. But it will teach me something about finding books I like. So there's that. Thanks.
