History lovers, people who are thirsting for knowledge, and anyone else who is interested, get ready to squirm in your seats!

Post a picture of a historically influential person, and somone guesses who that person is. The historically influential person can be from many time period or place. :D :D It's like the "Movie Scenes Game". Try and add hints so we can learn some new things/do research and find out who it is!

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa144/shesoutofsync/max.jpg

Hints:
1. Nickname: "The Incorruptible".
2. Leader of the French Revolution.
3. Arrested and excecuted by order of the National Convention by charges of tyranny and dictatorship. (How's that for irony? :D)

Okay, GO! Guess! :D

Doesn't matter! :) Pretty unrestricted, I would say.

Now somebody else post a picture of someone!

Yep. The ridiculous hat might throw people off, but it was another of old Ben's eccentric ways. Ladies and gentlemen, Benjamin Franklin. Had I added the word "father" to my discription, it might have thrown even Robin off, but yes, Ben had two sons, William and Francis. Francis died as a child of four. William did as much against American as Ben did for it, and Ben's will left him nothing.

Ahahahaha. I was going to say who it was, but I kind of want more people to get into this game...

Ben Franklin...that pervert. Him and his "fashionable" furry hat. Did you know women (I believe mostly in France) started wearing those things because of him?

http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa144/shesoutofsync/bill.jpg

Hints:
1. Invaded England in 1066.
2. Won the Battle of Hastings to win England in 1066.
3. Died of having his stomach jammed into the horn of a horse's saddle because the horse stopped abruptly. It is said that later when the funeral procession was going on, his corpse was so bloated and full of pus that it exploded in the middle of the funeral and sent people rushing out of the church in agony.

Royal lady, and lady indeed, she was, she called for the Kings mistress to come see him before he died.

One of her sons would go on to scandalize the country and throw everything away despite her warning.

Oh yes, and she was kind hearted to The Elephant Man, Joseph Merrick, and dined with him in his rooms at the hospital.

Sappho, if I'm not mistaken. I believe the poem was posted by quasimodo1 in the thread 'neglected poets'. This one, right?

Sappho (c.610 - c.580 BC)
Translated by William Bowles (17th century)
Sapho's Ode out of Longinus.

By the same.

I.

THE Gods are not more blest than he,
Who fixing his glad Eyes on thee,
With thy bright Rays his Senses chears,
And drinks with ever thirsty ears.
The charming Musick of thy Tongue,
Does ever hear, and ever long;
That sees with more than humane Grace,
Sweet smiles adorn thy Angel Face.

II.

But when with kinder beams you shine,
And so appear much more divine,
My feeble sense and dazl'd sight,
No more support the glorious light,
And the fierce Torrent of Delight.
Oh! then I feel my Life decay,
My ravish'd Soul then flies away,
Then Faintness does my Limbs surprize,
And Darkness swims before my Eyes.

III.

Then my Tongue fails, and from my Brow
The liquid drops in silence flow,
Then wand'ring Fires run through my Blood,
And Cold binds up the stupid Flood,
All pale, and breathless then I lye,
I sigh, I tremble, and I dye.

I really have no idea, but I asked my dad and he said maybe Stephen Colbert? Was he right?

Say, I've been dying to see if anyone knows who this is:

1. He ruled Rome from A.D. 37 to 41
2. He is remembered for having gone mad to the point of selecting his favorite horse as a member of the Roman Senate.
3. His own bodyguards murdered him.
