Hello,
My friend and I are having an argument over if this situation is ironic, or not.
A person considerably more weighty (We'll say this is "craig") calling someone slightly fat, but much skinnier than Craig a fat person. We'll call him josh.
Now, if Craig is calling josh fat, and pestering josh that he's developed a weight problem, even though Craig weighs considerably more than Josh.

The definition of irony doesn't exactly encompass this situation, however, I believe this could be described as irony. My friend disagrees. How do you feel?

It sounds like typical irony

Greetings, punkonjunk, and welcome to the Forum. I think you're situation has a little of the ironic element, but only a little, because it's just a guy calling another guy fat. It isn't not ironic; it just could probably be more so - I guess it's a question of degree, really. Now, if Josh were to have some fatal heart trouble or something like that due to his weight, it would almost certainly be ironic, supposing Craig is spared this fate (and especially if Josh is the only one who exercises or tries to mind his diet). Or even if, say, someone else seemed to notice Josh's condition more than Craig's, that would be a bit more ironic. All the same, the germ is, I think, there.

ironic enough. maybe you could tell craig to check the mirror, or the weighing scale?
