I should point out that this was written from personal experience.

* * *

Like a blanket I will cover you
In the depths of your despair
I can visit you at will
As I trap you in my lair

I am dark and forboding
Not pleasant in the least
Once I have you in my power
You cannot tame this beast

I prey on those most vulnerable
When gloom is knocking at your door
I come in many shapes and forms
Inside your mind I eagerly explore

'tho I'm there you cannot see me
Your imagination running wild
Sometimes you curl up like a foetus
And you wish you were a child

Most times I can be treated
But I seldom go away
I'm like a virus in your mind
Deep inside is where I lay

* * *

"Love is the lifeline I cling to
when grief threatens to
pull me down into eternal darkness"

Thanks again Helga.

Since I suffered from depression, I know of so many others who have been through it and I knew many people would be able to relate to my words.

Take care.........Sue

That's a really good description, Sue. I often hear depression described as an emotion or an experience; "she IS depressed," but many people don't seem to understand that it does feel like a separate entity inside, preying on the real you. You put it very well. :)

Hello Emily

Yes, you describe depression so very well and unfortunately, once it takes hold it is not a simple case of "getting over it" like some people think, it takes time. Firstly the sufferer has to realise that this illness is out of their control and then they must find the courage to tell someone they need help which can be a really hard thing to do. Once you have made that step there will be light at the end of the tunnel.

Thank you for taking the time to read my words.

Take care.......Sue
