Domine, Non Sum Dignus
To deny the existence is vain and moot,
Even as vast aspects of a wasteland loom,
Amid convincing doubters with pride at their root,
The Omniscience, not that corner, is too hip for the room.
Instead the question, borne by a puny mote,
One of a universe, engendered and dispatched in dust:
Is there a higher arcing (as in the oft-cited sparrow quote)
That bestows a personal interest greater than is just?
Chance, it seems, takes all (hence Pascal’s longshot bet):
Reason for unrequited pleas and petitions unmet,
And Absence, and answers eternally caught in an inner net -–
Somewhat like a humble epistle to the famous, smarter set,
An earnest quest for a real reply from their end,
Which they -- one knew all along -- of course never send.
