When I am writing, sometimes the music I'm listening to at the time will have a serious impact on the type of stories I write. Anyone else notice a trend like this?
What kind of music puts you in what kind of writing mood?
Anything else impact your style?

I listen to T.A.T.U, Aqua and Miyavi when I write. Music really impacts my writing. I prefer rock or something with a fast beat, since i'm a fast writer.

TATU and Aqua, I'd imagine, would create a very girly story xD

all diferent types... normally when writing fantisy i play my peter pan soundtrack... but when i'm in a reality type of tone i usually go for country. for the romantic parts i just play really slow songs like "Fairy dance" or " please don't die". for times i want to have a flying feeling in my writing i play "flying". fighting seens i play the end of "set them free" or "the battle"(from the chronicals of narnia). basically all different types.

Not really, I'm writing a very violent, blood-drenched, angsty GAY FAERIE story :) perhaps the girly music does help, ummm

I love Jack off Jill!!! They are pretty good!!

Most of the time when I am writing or painting I listen to Radiohead, Shiny Toy Guns, AFI, Coldplay, Muse...I think it just depends on my mood.

When ever its angsty, angry hate kind of stuff, I'll plug in the faster angrier kind of stuff. But when it is more about getting into characters heads and really turning them into a 'real' person...thats when I go more mellow, abstract or alternative type stuff.

Emo music is better thought, I love the sad, emotional lyrics and as always emotion is what a story is all about.

I always give my characters favorite songs as a way to describe them, for example my character Kai Krissanti loves Marilyn Manson :)

Interesting, it appears rap doesn't help anyone but me out. xD

I like rap. I use that for my paintings more though. Especially my Urban ones. I've been trying to learn how to tag better...I'm okay, but its not nearly as cool as a lot of people.

I like emo as well...but then again I'll listen to anything except for country...gross.

Music really inspires me though. Especially in art. Thats how I started out though...well, actually X-Men...but then the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin...and, Andrea Nikatina.

Emo is my nails on a chalkboard. I hate. Senseless. *****ing.

Its pretty cool...I've only done it once illegally...probably not the best thing I've done...but it was an experience. Now I just do it on paper.:)

Emo is okay...but hey, to each his own.

I don't listen to music while I write. I've tried once or twice, but I just can't concentrate. Unless it's like a paper for school, I really have to get in the zone, completely immersed in my own thoughts. I gotta get rid of all those distracting external stimuli, of which music is one. But it appears I'm the minority.

If I listened to anything, it'd have to be instrumental.

OH THAT kind of tagging. I thought like... never mind.

Tudwell,

I am with you. While I'm writing a peice I can't listen to the music, it has to be before or after. Either that or it has to be very quiet.

I make everything silent when I write, even to the extent of earplugs. This way the words I write are uninfluenced by surroundings and straight from my head. More importantly though, I can't concentrate with noise around me.

I usually have to have some kind of white noise. I can't even sleep without that, my fan usually suffices.

No problem, homey!

I actually discovered them originally because I was looking for sound clips responding to the key word "nazi" (don't ask) and they have a song called Nazi Halo. =)

Hurray for chick rock!

Yes.Music is the universal language which helps you to improve all your faculties.Your brain waves become meditational and that helps cognition.Ihave noticed that effect right from my childhood, and when I became a doctor,I went deep into it,to find out what is happening to me when I LISTEN TO MUSIC,HOW IS MY BRAIN RESPONDING TO IT ETC.I have found some answers and experimental proofs for that.At present i am even trying to share those experiences and thoughts to the world, through a raagachikitsa programme, using classical south Indian music .

at the risk of sounding politically incorrect, classical.

to be precise, instrumental.

Blake said.. "If the doors of perception were cleansed everything would appear as it is, infinite."

This is the line that inspired Jim Morrison to name the band The Doors
and The Doors... inspire me to write what I must...

I often times listen to new albums I just downloaded when writing. But soundtracks from my favorite musicals are the ones I prefer listening to when writing.
