Today there is a wedding on the beach of a great lake,
Under blue sky and on sand that will soon begin to bake.
I will wear my floral sundress, one that Prince might like,
With pale blue flowers and brown leaves on a bed of white.
I'll sing acappella, the song, "I Will Be Here",
But wait! I'll have accompaniment, the waves drawing near.
The lake gulls at a distance will soar and keep an eye,
To see if we throw breadcrumbs up into the sky?

I Will Be Here by Steven Curtis Chapman

Tomorrow morning if you wake up and the sun does not appear
I will be here.
If in the dark we lose sight of love, hold my hand and have no fear
I will be here.

I will be here when you feel like being quiet
When you need to speak your mind I will listen
I will be here when the laughter turns to crying
Through the winning, losing and trying
We'll be together cause I will be here.

Tomorrow morning if you wake up and the future is unclear
I will be here.
As sure as seasons were made for change, our lifetimes were made for these years
I will be here.

I will be here and you can cry on my shoulder
When the mirror tells us we're older I will hold you
I will be here to watch you grow in beauty
Tell you all the things you are to me
I will be here.

I will be true to the promise I have made
To you and to the one who gave you to me
As sure as seasons were made for change, our lifetimes were made for these years
I will be here.

Are you, like for real? And even if you're not for real, the person who's making you up and writing and quoting such wonderful poetry must be for real! Really! I really, really mean it!

So... sue me? But I liked it for many reasons. Sure I was in it (I guess) but you said nothing about my genius for repartee, my fine (if often off-key) singing voice, my suuuuuuuave seductive ways....

I like Steven Curtis Chapman's music, but you have a nice poetic lead into the song that sets up the scene so that it's like watching a music video. Great stuff. (And I'm not in it, so you know I'm sincere! (Joking Jerry, I'm sure you were also sincere!))

Very cute, Pen. Prince didn't even know he was in it. ;)
Yes, Chapman has some nice things. Your comment makes me wish I'd have read my poem before I sang. I think they would have liked it. The song was the bride's choice. It was sooooo windy I thought it would carry the song away. They heard it though, as they gazed into each other's eyes. And then, why a redhead would forget her sunscreen, it's a mystery! ha
So here, my ending verses, nothing profound, but fun to write.

The breadcrumbs became bubbles, we didn't have to blow,
Just hold the wand into the wind, they bounced out to and fro.
The gulls, they were disgusted, they flew on down the beach,
Such hollow fare was their disdain, a picnic they beseeched.
'Twas nice how guests all mingled, some playing in the sand,
Children looked for smoothe stones while walking hand in hand.
The family stood for pictures, the backdrop was the lake,
But soon their hunger called them, to food and wedding cake.

The lovely country setting near fields of beans and corn,
The blue cloths strained against the wind, the mother was forlorn.
But soon it went unnoticed, with laughter, food and drink.
The toasts were given, the glasses raised. "Congratulations!"..clink!!
The mother's gift of hula, the father's love of song,
Friends and family wishing the best, a marriage for lifelong.
The couple held to each other while swaying in their first dance,
Looked into each other's eyes, this isn't happenstance.
