I have to pick one book from each list for my English class. Recommendations would be awesome. I'm an Asian male interested in suspense books, no lovey-dovey romantic stuff please >_>. Looking for an easy, smooth read.
1)
Tess of the D'Urbervilles
Jane Eyre
Wuthering Heights
Pride and Prejudice
A tale of Two Cities
The Mill on the Floss
Middlemarch
Anna Karenina
Crime and Punishment
All the Pretty Horses
Cold Mountain
Sons and Lovers
2)
The Unbearable Lightness of Being
One Hundred Years of Solitude
The Handmaiden's Tale
Mrs. Dalloway
London Fields
The English Patient
The Shipping News
Catch-22
On the Road
Going After Cacciato
A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
Midnight's Children
Thanks in advance!

To glock: Well at least you don't want to read about firearms. I would recommend from the first list..."Anna Karenina" which has a slightly asian flavor, well, Russian Asian. From the second list I would select "Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man" which is the easiest read of all of Joyce. quasimodo1

I would have to suggest A Tale of Two Cites and Midnights Children. I've never read Midnights Children, but after looking up the books I didn't know on your list I'm thinking of getting it for me to read. I would avoid both Tess and Jane Eyre. Good luck making your selection.

I would say Cold Mountain and Catch-22. Cold Mountain although it has a little bit of romance quite alot of it features war scenes. I found it quite easy to read. Avoid Tess of the D'Ubervilles like the plague - Not an easy read!!

I definitely have to opt for Crime and Punishment and Catch-22. There are some really great books on those lists, but as an English teacher, those would be what I'd recommend based on your likes.

I'd say Tale of Two Cities and One Hundred Years of Solitude. But, I recommend you read Jane Eyre also. I thought it was quite good, and I'm not a romance fan either.

From the first list, I would strongly recommend you A Tale of Two Cities though most of the books in this list are very interesting but I think this might be the best one for an English class, neither too long nor short and idea is also easy to grasp. But still the plot deals with an important event in the history.
In the second list, I am confused in deciding what to suggest you. Perhaps Midnight Children? You might like to read about these books (not plot details though because it spoils fun and suspense), in wikipedia too. This might make your decision even easier. :)

Catch 22! And perhaps you'll like Middlemarch...

Since it's an English class I'm going to recommend novels written in English, it just sounds more sensible to me for some reason.
1 - I haven't read "All the Pretty Horses" but I've read some Cormac McCarthy recently and enjoyed it a lot. This is supposed to be one of his best novels.
2 - "On the Road", you can't go wrong with Jack, it's a modern classic and will stay with you forever.

Tale of Two Cities and Catch 22 sounds best.
