I think I'm slowly breaking away from my most TERRIBLE writer's block but I'm still very rusty. Tell me what you think of this..?

Appomattox

Surrender was the straw of hope
and took it up they did. Battalion
vaunts up and rose but pomp
was clouded in. A flame lit immoral
befitting rise in passion,
leading rants on Yankees
to cook their pride in sin.
Where mind at will
gives thought to fort and citadel
is built, a tyrant will annex
but feel his soul burn like cinders.
A change of season
and fortune brought
from middle-west,
a defense for right.
His beared and booze
and jocund mood,
his native plights and tales so trite
deemed quite angsty and often rude
was the bloat of last resort.
It was as though depravity
lost adopted sense
when barbarity gave rise
to squall,
that fell the Southern fence.

Entrenched was a mutual flag of cheers
when obdurate command surrendered
Negro rights was given in future years
Hurrah for the boozed defender!

While this poem was in your Blog, I commented, but for the records, enjoyed the poem, very powerful.

I am glad to see that you are coming out of a spell of Writer's Block, I surely know how that goes, Adol.

And -- if I may be so bold to say: If you are leaving LitNet due to lack of response from people, take cheer, people are busy, but that does not mean that your work is not being looked at -- sometimes writing comments, etc., gets overwhelming overloaded, considering the size of LitNet.... I often regret not making a comment, but time prohibits me to do this each and every time.

Anyhow, sorry to sermonize, hope that your Writer's Block is kicked to the curb, and hope that you will reconsider your stance on quitting here, your input is always refreshing, you are an extremely articulate and intelligent person, and will be sorely missed.

Hey, whoa! Where you going? You just going to leave me here without even a good-bye? 'Dole, mon ami, do not so quickly pass on us. We will be there for you. If I criticize your poetry, it is to make you stronger, never to discourage you. You have loads of talent. Stay here! PLEASE!

Surrender was the straw of hope
!

That's right! Surrender (and stay) or I will whup you with that straw or at least tickle you to death! ;) :)

Are you really leaving or did you just put 'bye' to scare us? :D

I agree with Kiz for you and for EVERY poet here. Don't be discouraged if you don't get feedback. Busy, yes and maybe, just maybe, too moved to say a word.

I really liked this one.

I've got a few issues in my life going wrong as of now and I'm feeling depressed again especially after my dog just died yesterday... so I'm planning to slip off the face of earth for a few days.. just to collect myself together maybe.

OH NO! I'll be thinking of you Adol. I'm SO sorry you have lost your dog. I lost my Siouxsie last year. Take care of yourself.

My deepest sympathies about your dog Adol, I have lost a dog before and understand how painful it can be.
We all need a break sometimes, I hope things will pick up, do take care.

Having lost my best buddy, a cat, recently, I can sympathize. You know though, although others do not believe this, those animals that we love, if there is truly an afterlife, and I do not doubt that there is, they will be waiting on us there. Why would they be excluded when they gave us all that love?

Take care, mon ami.

Call me Dale, 'Dole. You've earned the right.

Adol, I cannot imagine life without Pepper, I think that I have bored everyone here plenty of times with my constant banter about this dog. So I fully and completely hear what you are saying. Indeed take time out and re-evaluate what you feel is important to you. Hopefully you will stay on at LitNet, as many here feel that what you have to say is important to them. You have many friends here, visible or not, please re-consider your choice to up and go like this. Take care, no matter what, Kizzo :)
