--That was a weird title but I couldn't think up something.

I've had an idea mulling in my brain around. I feel like I know a lot of you but I don't at the same time. What if we started mailing to each other stuff? Like, I'd handwrite something and put it into a manila folder and send to a LitNetter who would pm me his home address. Once it reaches him, he'll handwrite something and send it to the next LitNetter who pm's his address and we'll keep going on until we reach the tenth person. The tenth person gets to keep the folder and has to start a new one. You'll have to pay postage but hopefully not too much because it shouldn't be too heavy with the ten piece limit. What say you? I'm sorry that this is so garbled but it would be really nice to have a tangible sense of you all. If it works, whoever wants it next just post something in this thread and pm me your address. Thanks all, and hope this works!

I would be interested. What exactly would we be writing? About ourselves? Like penpals?

I'll give it a whirl again..

We tried it once before with a troll doll, until Night messed it up ;). Just Kidding - It got lost in the mail. We would add a few pictures from where I live and a postcard or something, there was also "log Book" where we could write what Trolly did while it was with us. The person that got it last was going to upload everything so we could all see where trolly had been. Alas! Poor Trolly never made it. somebody coordinated the whole thing but I don't remember who.

Frankly Andave and others, I think trading your home addresses with strangers is not a good idea. Why don't you guys just do trade stuff through email? I'm sure that 99.9% of the people here are fine, but you never know that one person. I just hear too many stories on the news for me to feel comfortable, and I wouldn't want anything to go wrong with you young people.

I agree, Virgil. I'd like to e-mail. The only danger could be a few more spammers, but I've got a good filter. But I do like the idea of personal contact.

ok, that's fine if people aren't very comfortable with it. I would like to have some kind of tangible way of connecting with you guys but I wouldn't like at all to make you uncomfortable. If anyone will feel comfortable doing it feel free to post and I'll send it to you as long as you are someone that's been a regular poster.

Dori if you still want to do it after everyone's recommendations, I figured we'd just copy down by hand a favorite poem written by a favorite author, published or otherwise, perhaps even something by you. Maybe you could do a handwritten signature of your LitNet name? It's up to you, just so long as it's in your own hand.

I've been thinking about this as well!! Its always fun to get letters and it would be cool because it would actually seem like the people on this thing would be real. I know that sounds weird, but its different when there isn't anything tangible. Great idea! I would love a pen pal;) Emails are good as well...I've had a few people email me...

Dori

I've had second thoughts about this. Perhaps e-mail would be the better way to do things. Besides, I'm not sure my mom wants me giving out the house address.

Bakiryu
07-08-2007, 09:23 PM
Yeah, that's what I meant! I would love to do it but if my parents catch me I'm so dead!

nah ryu, they wouldn't kill you, they would call up someone else to do it so they could technically say they didn't do it. i'm not giving out my personal address to someone i don't really know, i trust all the litnetters, but you have to remember, you don't have to be a litnet member to view the forum, just to post.

Bakiryu

Anyway if anyone wants to talk just PM each other or e-mail. I'd gladly answer any questions or even post a photograph if I can find the little camera cable thingy.

it's called a USB cable and you can find them at any walmart or target. or you could give me your address and i could send you one. (laughing to self in an evil way and grinning even more evilly, muhahahaha)

My room, is next to the first 2 book cases, if it was my living room I wouldn't have lost it in the first place.

07-08-2007, 10:33 PM
ok, best idea in the world, flood your your room, make your parents refloor it and all of the crap that was in the room will have to be taken out when you put it all back together, it will be right on top o fht elast place you looked,

(my room flooded cause its right next to the water heater and we had a blockage, i had to clean my room out with heavy rubber boots so i wouldn't ruin my shoes in the sewage, thats right i said sewage)

one thing we could do is send it to a certain part of a country to a person with the actual first name and then the last name would be the screename. also if it has spaces, then it would get crammed together like this,

high/milf, mich...

I quite agree. Unless everyone were to get a P.O. box, it sounds like email is the only really safe way. It would be fun, but one just never knows...

I think it's a good idea --- TANGIBLE litnetters.

Do you ever sit around and post on here and wonder if you're not the only real lit net member (or maybe just one of about 5 other real people) and all the other usernames are just accounts the admin and maybe a couple of moderators dreamed up? Although, I don't really know what purpose that would serve actually.

But what if the admin and the moderators decided to start a web site one day and they all sat around and dreamed up characters and then they picked out avatars for them and crafted writing styles for them and came up with post topics for them based on the character and made this website. What if there is no such person as say, Virgil or Pendragon? Maybe the admin made them up. Virgil man, are you real dude? :D What a fun thought. Or maybe I am just retarded.

But at the end of the day, I am not comfortable enough to post my actual picture so I don't think I want to mail anything. I might do the email thing though.

*ow!* i think i'm real enought but yet everything may be a dream here,

I'll do e-mail i think.

okeydokey, then let's switch it. If whoever wants to do this next pm's me their email address, I'll type down a poem or something and send it to them. The next person will post in here and then the last person to get an email will answer to the next person. (oh man this is so very garbled!!) You can address it to the next person on the list or just to the next litnetter. It's up to you. Would everyone be comfortable with this?

I can vouch for Pendragon being real. He trusted me with his address to send a book he needed for a collection he wanted to finish and I had a source. He's the only one of two (besides Logos) that knows my real last name. The other has a standing offer to talk on my cp but there is no expectations from me and no pressure. I do not and never have asked real last names and find some first names out slowly but surely to the point I'm about to create a list. I prefer phone calls--I am the worse letter writer--wrote once to son Dan in Iraq and none at all when other son Jim was there. Phones are easiest and e-mail is annoying to me because it ends up on the long suffering wife's side of the computer or gets spamed out. There are a few here I PM on a comment basis but I realize LitNet is far from being an ideal place to get to know someone on a satisfying basis but I've spent years living on less. There are several here on the net I have become quite fond of within the parameters here. If I was even thought to be stalker in earnest (other then teasing Logos) I would so be out of here.

I'm going to be out of town and wouldn't be able to start it. Would you care to, Mortis? I hate throwing it on to you but if you don't mind? If you do, we can wait till I get back but I won't be able to do it until August, :( Sorry.

I used to feel that way Andave, until I started making some close friends here whom today I email, PM, and chat with online. Sometimes it is a little hard to get used to chatting with someone...it's not just a post anymore...it's a dead on conversation. I know of some friends here who have gone on to exchange phone numbers. But IMing is a pretty good way to start. I've also got some pictures of some fellow LitNetters.

Personally been thinking about having a phone conversation with a friend, but that is on a different comfort level than if you are starting off getting to know someone online.

Good luck Andave, please let us know how it turns out if you continue. :) I love getting to know people who love the same things I do.

do you mean that when I visit the U.S. after I graduate, we won't meet up and argue about politics? :bawling: man, I had it all planned out...

Yes I hope to get brave enough one day to try out that phone call. Right now there is a lot going on with my phone and long distance.

hey, i don't know if you want to do still do the tangible objects of the lit netters, but i was thinking that everyone would anonymously to one central address, then the owner of the address would put all of our addresses onto a list adn the list would be arranged in a certain order and then you would get the package and send it down to the next address on the list, that way, you wouldn't know exactly whose who, especially if they were to either scribble out their address, or cut it off.

if any of you guys would like to be snail mail pals with me outside andave's project, I'm game for anything: long-term snail mail pals (typed or hand-written letters, both are fine), swaps (postcards, newspapers, books, souvenirs,).
if you're interested PM me for my snail mail addy. I won't write to new 1-post members I've never talked to, though.
I've been penpalling since I was 13, but most of the people who look for penpals on the internet aren't geeky enough for my liking ;)

Many of you already have my e-mail address and it is on my profile page. The only this is this: If you e-mail me, put your user name in the message line. Otherwise, I trash it. I get email from and send email to several of you. And enjoy it. I chat very little as I am a slow typer and my health is not helping. But it sound good otherwise! I'd be honored. I have exchanged mail with a few, but am like Virgil, I'm cautious.
