I got to see The Police in concert this last week, which was fabulous and when my friend and I got home from the concert, my kids started a discussion about the first concerts we ever went to. Mine was Cheap Trick, my friend's was Dr. Hook and my boys just recently saw their first concert, Weird Al. We all had cute little stories to tell about those concerts, mine was that I was 16 when I went to that concert and I bought a cute little blue tank top that said Cheap Trick on it. It was quite adorable, I was very pleased but when I got home and showed it to my dad, he was horrified. "I'm not going to let my 16 year old daughter wear a skimpy tank top that says 'cheap trick' on it". And it was a little skimpy, more of a camisole really than a classic tank top, I'll give him that but I was still quite sure that people would know it was the name of a band and not an advertisement but he remained firm, stating that people in his generation would have no clue it was a band and how would it look to those older parishioners to see the pastor's daughter wearing something that is designed to be underwear advertising her status as a 'cheap trick'. I did my best but I lost that argument and didn't wear the tank until I was in college and out of the house...and by then, Cheaptrick wasn't even cool anymore.

So...what was your first concert?

Mine was a concert with a swedish punk band called Strebers. My friend got her front teeth broken by someone who stagedived wearing Doc Martens. But she refused to go home until the concert was done, claiming blood on the face was true punk rock. Those were the days.

My Mom took me to see Sha na na when I was ten. That was fun most of the crowd was dressed in the 50's style. It was an outdoor concert and we had seats on the lawn. I think I liked watching the people more so then the concert.

My second and first "real" concert was Motley Crue. My friends Mom wouldn't let her go alone so her mom and my mom both came with us but we got them seats away from ours. I think I was 15 at the time.

My first concert was of Iron Maiden in March this year (I know I am a late starter ).

Well, I was inspired by one of the litnet members here to go to the concert :D. And, the very next day I booked my flight for Bangalore, a month in advance. I had asked my brother who lives there to get me the concert tickets. He obviously doesn't know about this band, and was thinking his sister has gone mad, but anyways he got me the tics. He was thinking there will hardly be 200 people to attend it, but, when he came to pick me up, he saw a huge, massive crowd, and again he was thinking that ALL have gone mad  .

It being my first experience, I had no idea that I will be inside not able to see anything, guys standing in front and another one on his shoulder, blocking my view, and then me inhaling all the dust when everyone starts jumping, me surviving a near stampede. I went throgh all this, but let me tell you it was other wise a good concert, the stage, the live music, a very different altogether. :D :D If at all there is a next time, I will make sure to fare better :p :D :D

That's a great story and I agree with her, being toothless and covered in blood is what punk is all about. ;) :thumbs_up

That is very cool!

The first concert I went to was T in the Park in the summer of '99 (this was when they still had a good line-up and before they went the useless line-ups they have had in recent years) I had just finished high school was still 2mths from starting (& dropping out of studying Immunology at Glasgow University) I packed up my old canvas ridge tent & caught a bus up the A9 to Balado near Perth for a weekend of what I was sure would be drink, drugs (nothing hardcore, yes I smoked dope, yes I inhaled) & music. I was not disappointed, and had a brilliant weekend it rained a bit but there was still enough sun to prevent it being a washout/mudbath. I didnt sleep at all and when I got back to Glasgow layed down on a bench while I waited for my ride. I must've been some state by this point, because a passerby gave me some loose change & the directions to the homeless shelter:p

The first one ever was when my father took me to see Soda Stereo (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=11:fpfwxq85ld0e) (which I heartily recommend if you want to try rock in spanish), but I was very little, like 9 or 10 years old.

When I was old enough to appreciatte it, my first concert was U2's PopMart Tour.

Oasis is the band I've seen the most, I went to see them the three times they played here.

Roger Waters' Dark Side of the Moon Tour is the best one I've attended.

This year I'm looking forward to seeing The Police and Soda Stereo's comeback.

Ummm lord of the dance.

I just saw the Fray, mostly because my friend had extra tickets and not because I know their songs (which I don't really.) They had OK Go as their frontrunner band.

I've never been to a play/concert or even the movie theaters for that matter. Heck, I don't own a t.v... but I sure would love to go! Sorry I can't contribute much to the topic discussion :(

I never been to a REAL concert but I HAVE played the guitar in 4. It wasn't that bad but it isn't like i'm famous or anything, since it was simply a school concert thought. I once saw Pilot Light, i think it was.

The Carpenters in Philadelphia PA circa 1975. A friend of a friend paid my way. Was nose bleed sections but it was a great time. Donna Fargo 1979 or so. Gosepl wise: Second Chapter of Acts, Sandi Patti, and Amy Grant plus Dallas Holm. That pretty much sums it up for this old timer. Strongly tempted by Sheryl Crow who hits Dayton every few years or so.

This year I'm looking forward to seeing The Police ...

I saw U2's Joshua Tree tour in Boston's Madison Square Garden, one of my favorite concert experiences, it was U2 at their peak, before they lost their integrity. ;) :p  That was topped only by a David Gilmour run Pink Floyd, I saw both the Momentary Lapse of Reason and Division Bell tours. I would've preferred to see them together but since that isn't a possibility I was thrilled to be able to see Dave. I'd love to see Roger too but if I can only see one, I'd rather it be Dave. :D

And have fun at the Police concert, it was a good show. They played all their hits of course but they also played a fair number of songs only serious fans would know, those are always the most fun.

I'd attribute that sentence to All That You Can't Leave Behind, I really disliked that one. How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb gained them my confidence back, though. Acthung Baby is my all-time fav.

Mine too. It's in my top 10.

I saw that concert. I hated every minute of it, I think that had to do with the company I went with rather then the concert.

It was the whole Zooropa thing that destroyed my faith in U2 and once my faith is destroyed, I'm just kind of done. It doesn't effect how I feel about their past work but it will forever color how I feel about their work since...I can be a very unforgiving woman. :p Joshua Tree will always be my favorite, although Acthung Baby certainly has some great songs on it...it was the last album of their's I bought.

Awww, I loved it but then again, I'm obsessed with David Gilmour so that was a bit of a 'no brainer'. Your companions at a concert can have a lot to do with whether or not or how much you enjoy a concert. I enjoyed the first Pink Floyd concert much more than the second because of the company...of course it may have also been due to the fact that I was about 3 months pregnant with my second child and all the smoke fumes were making me sick...that's a distinct possibility. ;)

My first concert was tiesto. I always wear black, I had to wear a pink top back then.
I was invited by a dj. cool guy. I`m not into trance :p Gothic things were my best, but I had a great time.
The se cond concert which I CALL MY FIRST was called "Discordance" where it was hosted in an old damaged castle, with doom-metal bands playing and alot of head banging and body slamming.. even the security guys where dancing too :^)

The sea it swells like a sore head
and the night it is aching
Two lovers lie with no sheets on their bed
and the day it is breaking

On rainy days we go swimming out
on rainy days, swimming in the sound
On rainy days we go swimming out

You're in my mind all of the time
I know that's not enough
if the sky can crack
there must be some way back
for love and only love

Car alarm and back to sleep
you kept awake dreaming some else's dream
coffee is cold, but it will get you through
compromise, there's nothing new to you
let's see colours that have never been seen
let's go to places no one else has been

You're in my mind all of the time
I know that's not enough
if the sky can crack
there must be some way back
to love and only love

Electrical Storm
Electrical Storm
Electrical Storm
Baby don't cry

It's hot as hell, honey in this room
sure hope the weather will break soon
the air is heavy, heavy as a truck
hope the rain will wash away our bad luck

heeeey... heeeey.....

If the sky can crack, there must be some way back
for love and only love

Electrical Storm
Electrical Storm
Electrical Storm

Baby don't cry
Baby don't cry
Baby don't cry
Baby don't cry

All I have are Golden Oldies. The very first was Black Oak Arkansas, because they had a band house down the street from me and gave a concert on their front porch for everyone they grew up with before they started their first big tour.
I saw Neil Diamond in 76 in Memphis. Great.
Elvis' homecoming concert in Memphis in 76 also. Wasn't a big fan but my husband waited 14 hrs. in line for the tickets. Really enjoyed it. And they really did say "Elvis has left the building" Linda Ronstat in 77 but had to leave because I was expecting and the pot was making me sick. Before those, I saw 3 Dog Night before anyone really knew who they were. Since I've been to several but the very best was the Stones in Little Rock in 94.
And I too would like to see Sheryl Crow.

Are you a Stones fan Granny? I looove the Stones. It was my best concert too. 1982 I think, or was it 1983? I'll have to tell the story of how I got tickets for that one day. But I have to get to bed right now.

When I was really little, my father took me to a couple of concerts, one of which was, unless I'm mistaken, Jefferson Starship (or J. Airplane, whatever they bloody called themselves at the time), but I do not remember much other than being impressed with the volume.
However, when I was old enough to know what was going on around me...

I am pretty sure it was Page and Plant in an arena in 1995.

The seats were bad and I couldn't really see them. They did "No Quarter" and that was good --- there were "doobies" all around

Likewise.
We didn't have tickets or anything, but my father dragged me down to Kemper Arena to see if we could "hear anything through the walls" (which I thought a bit goofy at the time, but who knows). We were standing out on the big platform surrounding the arena at the entrance level, and this guy from clear at the other end of the platform (several hundred feet) shouted across to us, "Hey, you guys, I've got some tickets for you guys!"
It's funny that you mention "doobies", Shalot, because the tickets he gave us were actually for a Doobie Brothers concert from, like, 1985 or something. He told us to go through a particular lady's line, assuring us that she would let us through...and she did. :thumbs_up
So, even though I was really still too young to appreciate the situation like I would now, I still do occasionally rub it into the faces of friends that I saw the remnant of Zeppelin!

Exactly one week from this very moment I will be at the Dream Theater concert. :) :D

Yeah, it's just the Zooropa thing, whenever I think of that and the mess that was the Popmart tour, it doesn't matter what they write, how brilliant and humble they've become since then, my image of them will always be tainted...I told you, I'm an unforgiving woman. :p

Oh, and I remember Greg Kihn, I was a fairly big fan in the day.
