This one has me stumped. I'm writing a business letter and I'm putting my bosses name: Peter L Pennypacker II (Not his real name). I'm not sure what to do with the II part. I've looked at other correspondence and that doesn't seem right either. How would I put his name in the signature?

Peter L. Pennypacker II
Peter L Pennypacker, II
Peter L Pennypacker II

TIA.

I'm pretty sure there's no comma, so it'd be Peter L. Pennypacker II

Are you sure it's the "II" and not Jr.?

Yep. I've seen it on his business card.

Ya know that's something that's always confused me: when is a Jr a Jr? and where does the II come in? Does II actually signify a third?

ie. Sr -> Jr -> II?

no...i think II is the same as Jr, depends on the person's preference

and the the rest come along, III; IV; etc

but...i'm not an authority on the topic...so you should just keep asking around :D

There's a comma between proper names and the "Jr.", but I'm not sure if it applies to "II", as well...

Affect means "to influence", effect means "to bring to pass." Effect is also a noun meaning "result."

Yeah where can we find one of those??? (j/k)

So would these two sentances be correct?

Taking the drugs affected the runner by making him faster.
