I'm a lovely femaleLovely? Care to prove that? :p Not that I deny its truth, but it strikes me as unsporting to say so and not support it. Then again, I can hardly say I'm not guilty of the same...

Wow! I thought you are male. May be because of the name, though I sometimes use it myself in the forums (I am a female).

I am kind of surprise here the womans are more. When I voted in the poll, I expected that there will be a domination of men, but obviously I was wrong.

i think this may have already been a thread, if it was delete it, could everybody say what their gender is, if you've you changed genders tell us your current one, yadda, yadda, yadda. the reason i'm doing this is so that i don't offend some guy by starting off a post, "hey girl" or some girl by saying, "hey man"

to start off, i'm a guy

I get confused about people all the times since most of the guys I know seem to want to dress like girls, and the girls look like guys. Is really strange when you see a couple.

People think I'm a guy all the time, in fact my closest friends call me Ed from my FMA fanatism. :)

I am a girl.

But this thread reminded me of something funny I did in college.

I was taking a Document Design class and the focus of the class was on page layouts and how to present information in an attractive easy-to-read format using Adobe software.

One of the assignments was to create a newsletter from scratch and create a page layout. So, to get ideas, I pulled a couple of newsletters off of the internet in pdf format. I didn't even pay attention to the content of these newsletters. I just printed some off and took them to class and started trying to mimic their designs while trying to learn to use the software.

The instructor would come around to our computers and look over our shoulders and assist when needed. Well, I needed some assistance and I had my little sample newsletter. So the whole time I am talking to the professor about my design and showing him my inspiration piece, which was one of the newsletters from the internet.

When he left and went on to the next student, I happened to notice that the newsletter I had was some kind of Transgender Newsletter....

I wonder if he noticed because I sure didn't even pay attention --- all I saw were text blocks and fonts and font sizes and heading types and shapes....

And if he did notice, did he wonder if I was a packing a little something extra or if I used to be a he....

 And I don't know whether to be embarrassed or amused, but I am a little of both.

So note to self: Always pay attention to what you print off in class!!!!

So, are we balanced, or what?

Sorry to dredge up an old thread, but hey ... what the hey! :)

Kizzo, this ratio of about 2 out of 3 being female has been the ratio for as long as I've been here. Seems that more women are into literature than men. I peruse other web forums, music, sports, politics, and while they don't have a poll to show the statistics, it does seem that more men, and probably by as significant a margin as here, are there.

Hmmm interesting, Virgil. :) Maybe the guys who are loving Literature are so busy reading that they don't want to mingle? Ahhh well .... we are one big happy family here, it matters not the boy-to-girl-ratio.

But you know, in an art site that I go to, there are more guys than girls, it would appear. It would be fun to do a survey just to see the different ways that it goes for the varying interests, you know? :)

I think women are more comfortable with their love of literature, since stereotypically men are the "science and math" experts and women are the "reading and writing" ones. Of course, as the years pass by these stereotypes diminish, which is always a great thing :D And hopefully something that is reflected on litnet.

Statistically speaking, female outperform male in literacy in English speaking nations.. Maybe the poll reflects the percentage of the competent readers between the genders.

Yes, and the poll also reflects which gender is most likely to blog. It turns out that competent, blogging readers are mostly female. Interesting.

 Well, here are some humorous but a bit obvious "facts" for your own sake, mind you I found some of them a bit rude but I was actually surprised as these were relevant to me:D

Women do NOT want an honest answer to the question, 'How do I look?'

A woman will dress up to go shopping, water the plants, empty the garbage, answer the phone, read a book, or get the mail.

Women are paid less than men, except for one field: Modeling.

Women love to shop. It is the one area of the world where they feel like they're actually in control.

Women love to talk. Silence intimidates them and they feel a need to fill it, even if they have nothing to say.

The average number of items in a typical woman's bathroom is 437. A man would not be able to identify most of these items.

skasian

Oh yeah my previous post reminded me something. Men outperform women in most spatial tasks and mathematics-calculus, physics, logics. This is most significant in schools where boys do best in mathematics, commerce, physics while girls do best in literature and creative arts.

I think in general, really. In pretty much every English department I've eveer seen, the women usually outnumber the men by at least two to one.

Medieval literature seems to be an (unfortunate) exception - its a right old sausage-fest for Medievalists...

My screen name is my real name also...but people still think I'm a man sometimes (I think its the Greek God reference)...I'm suprised that the site is female dominated as traditionally literature seems to have a rather male focus..especially in terms of Authors..don't you think?

You can't just make such a simplistic comment like 'hunting for wild creatures help control wildlife population'. ATVs contribute around 58% of all annual emissions for recreational vehicles in the US. That's 8% of nitrous oxides and almost 5% of CO2 for total onroad and offroad vehicles, in their entirety.

They're horrendous. As is killing wild animals.

We will have to disagree...and I will gladly dispute any so-called facts that the scientists EVER give anymore...with all of the corruption that they have shown here lately. Your facts are only as good as the integrity of the scientists, which they have proven that their integrity is questionable at best.

As I said...ATVs have little effect on the environment, and hunting helps control animal populations...therefore, if you disagree, then we will have to disagree.

The first time you said that you put in brackets 'ask any wildlife conservationist'. Well, I'm an environmental scientist whose studied wildlife conservation and been taught by a few of them and I'm telling you that they are not a cure for species overpopulations or imbalances in predator-prey populations. They are a short term solution, kind of like carbon offsetting.

All published science is peer-reviewed before being published. It's not just one scientist or one teams findings going straight to print.

Look into what is called the 'deer yards'. I think that over-populated wildlife habitat is awful. To think that there are so many white tail deer starving to their death is despicable. Conservationist and the game commissions have studied these things well. I must ask this one thing...are you a vegetarian?

No..I'm not..a vegetarian and I know being one would b more humane..however..I'm not political about it really..just don't think its nice..but starving animals sounds very sad too..as I said..I really dont know much about it..the arguments are compelling..
