I'm supposed to be gone, but I'm back just for a sec. :D Noting all the confusion over gender lately -- I guess it's all pretty much cleared up, but still -- I thought it might help for all of us just to say "Hi, I'm a girl/boy. I'm __ years old." (Or just general age range, if you're one of those people who doesn't like to tell. :p) Even if you think it's really obvious. Because it still seems like we don't know as much about each other as we thought we did.
Or, if you don't think it's a good idea, you can just let the thread die, too. :D
Anyway, I'm female. I'm going to be 19 in a couple weeks.
well, I thought it was well known about me, but there are a few new faces around...
so...*stands up* Hi, I'm a girl, I'm 22, and I'm a forumholic :D

VB -- I guess I automatically add a few years because of the "Mom," since my mother had me when she was 30. :D (But that's not an insult, because almost all her friends are much younger than she is, and she has a very youthful attitude.)

i actually got married when i was 18, and my boy was born nineteen days later. however, i have been happily divorced for more than ten years now, so i only just started living. im YOUNG!
hehe....my son actually said yesterday that i am "the coolest mom ever!!"
although he hates how many piercings i have, as i wont let him get any for another three years
EDIT: my name has Mom in it because i am truly defined by my role as a parent. there is nothing else in my life that affects my every decision as that does. although i am not JUST a parent, and i strive to have a life outside of my offspring, he still rules my world (dont tell him that, ok?)

LOL aw. When my brother was in 7th grade my mother tried everything to convince him to get his ear pierced, even "All the other boys are doing it." :D He's a very conservative child.
[edit] my mother was 19 when she got married, but my dad said he didn't want kids so they didn't have them...till my mom was 26 and cried every time she saw a baby. :D

emily655321
05-13-2004, 12:55 PM
Haha! Wise decision. Well, your son is damn lucky. :D My mother isn't very fond of the multiple-piercing/tattoo look (which I find to be g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s :D), so she made a rule long ago that anything besides my ears would have to wait till I could sign for it myself. But now I can, and I have no moneyyy! *whine, sob, tantrum*

oh dear...poor Em. may i recommend though that one waits till one can afford to have professional holes poked. i got frustrated on holiday season when i was going back to my home town for a visit and wanted my nose pierced. there was no one open that was able to do it for less than my right arm, so i bought some apholstery needles and went home and did it myself (in front of my son, we both learned something that day)
emily655321
05-13-2004, 01:14 PM
Ooch. Yai. No, no plans to do that. I fear passing out even if a professional does it. When I get money it shall go 1) hair dye 2) piercing (libret) 3) CD's 4) clothing 5) laptop 6) digital camera 7) piercing (eyebrow) 8) webcam
Such priorities. I'm guessing I won't get very far on my list before 2nd semester. :p

I really like the labrette piercings, sadly I can't get one. Before I went on vacation last year I asked my boss and VP what would happen if somebody came back with an eyebrow piercing they both said it was fine not think I would do it..... Ha!! I showed them. When I told the VP of my labrette plan he said I was done in the piercing dept.

That's pretty funny Em. hilarious. ha ha
no, seriously, i wanted my bf to get his tongue pierced but he's totally not allowed to. safety in the field issues. bah, i say its your body, do what you want with it. i guess i understand the health issues, but so many employers are against it because of aesthetics and i find that a form of discrimination. i know when i was looking for work, i had numerous comments on my nose ring and tooth stud (i have a diamond stud in an eye tooth), not all of them positive. i still managed to find work, but i had to mainly apply at the more contemporary places, NOT convervative. hmph.
when i first pierced my nose, i was already working, but was on holidays. when i came back my boss thought it was a joke, like one of those stick on studs or something. he was horrified when he realized it was real. i pointed out that if one is already working and has a good record of being responsible, reliable and competent, then there is little that can be done to dictate how one may or may not look, as long as one doesnt violate any dress code policy. he came around...eventually (two years?)
emily655321

I know, I'm a tweener, I'm an engineer that likes reading and lit. enough so that I don't really fit in with other engineers and I like lit and reading but not enough to really fit in with the lit people.
The only reason i was able to keep my piercing to begin with was that fact that I had already proven myself highly capable and very good at my job. It's kinda fun actually, everybody I work with is used to it but when we have customers come in i ususally get looks from them, the industry I work in still has that "good ol' boy" mentality.
Another aspect is that when we get audited one of the first places they come is my department, if it seems like I don't have my act together the auditors are more apt to dig deeper into my records and as we all know piercings in society aren't viewed as "responsible or organized"

Hey, thanks for that one. I feel much older than that, if it counts. :) But thruth is, according to people, I look younger than my age (which is gonna prove useful in a couple of years. At the present it's somewhat annoying).
LOL same here... last Xmas a distant relative of my mum's was shocked hearing I was 21, cos he thought I was 15!!! Just because I don't usually wear make-up and posh clothes! I really hate that, but yes I'm sure one day I'll like it.

When I was younger, people always thought I was about three years older than I was. When I was nine they thought I was 12, and when I was 13 they started asking if I had graduated high school yet! But sinced I turned 18 (the same week I actually graduated), people have started to think I'm about 16.
The world is just screwing with me. I'm in the Truman Show or something.

it's very weird when someone my age tries to treat me like an inferior; i know it's an age thing and i find it ridiculous. and they're always rather taken aback when i open my mouth - at that point i speak rather formally. :D
