I think I might be alone here, but really, what's the point? Life's hard, run away?

It's a shame, because Updike is brilliantly talented, but he doesn't seem to be writing for any reason. It feels like a false stab at existentialism, like Updike wasn't satisfied simply telling the story and had to strive for a bit more - unfortunately the ambiguity he provides comes out feeling contrived and empty.

I don't care for Updike at all...I read Rabbit Run in highschool and for some odd reason read several more of Updike's works. I found Rabbit Angstrom to be a very selfish and unsympathetic character and the book depressing in the extreme.

I've never read Updike but from all the feedback I've heard I probably wouldn't like him. There are too many more interesting authors out there.
