View Full Version : The pi mnemonic game

I thought that maybe we could have a game where we write a story as a mnemonic for pi to a certain number of decimal places, starting at 0 dp, and then working our way to... well, infinity. In this game, the number of letters in a word stands for the number that it represents (a 0 can be shown by any punctuation mark other than a space). The story or phrase or whatever made has to make some kind of sense. Entires do not have to follow on from each other (although they can)
So the first could be:
can
(i know that doesn't make much sense, but it's hard with only one word)
The second could be (ignoring the decimal point):
get a
or, following on from the first, it could be:
can I
Do you get the gist? Let's go then!!!
Oh yes, in case you don't know the digits of pi, the first 10000 are listed here:

Incidentally, I got the idea for this game from the book, The Joy of Pi

ok
so either this was a terrible idea or you don't get the game.
Basically, each word stands for a digit of pi, with the number of letters in the word indicating each number. perhaps we could do it like those stories where each person says one word: the only difference is that the length of the word is determined by the digit being represented. (remember punctuation marks indicate zero)

I
(the next word has to be 4 letters long, since the next digit of pi is 4)

I love your game!!!! Now I know pi a little better and I'll keep learning it! This is great!
The first 10 are easy, eh? 3.1415926535897...
---Can I have a peach succulent or mouldy green pie sings ----It's starting to lose its 'making sense' :D especially since I'm assuming we won't add punctuations, since they count when there's a 0.
decrepit
--oh, another thought is that it might fascilitate things and also make it easier to learn pi if each person wrote out pi a little, so the next person didn't have to look it up at first. Just an idea.
So,
3.1415926535897 and the next two numbers are 9 and 7.
