What would be in your Room 101?
(If anyone has seen the BBC programme... cool).
First off... cats.
They make me sneeze and my eyes itch. So I hate them.

Room 101?
simon

Attacked, swarmed, stung, eaten alive by thousands of hornets who would get causght in my clothing and hair and cause me to swell and puff into a gigantic bloated self taht would eventually pop from excessive pus.
explain explain, what's this??? sounds fun...maybe...

Room 101, the untimate personalized torture, from the book 1984 by George Orwell.

Mine would have tons of really fun looking people, and no matter what I did none of them would pay ANY attention to me. I would go crazy!

i would be instantly insane/paralyzed/etc.etc. if exposed for any length of time to disturbing / high-pitched / loud / angry / painful / bad noises. carpentry, car alarms, what not, it doesn't matter. i can actually hear just fine with earplugs in.

Speakers blaring my brother's laugh. It's horrible, he sounds like an autistic clown.
Actually, no I'm sorry the worst would be rap -- like Jay-z type rap, or 50 Cent (sorry az :().
But I agree -- I can block out a lot of things going on around me, but irritating noises I just can't bear.
Or you know what? Corpses. It would suck to be in a small room with a lot of human corpses in rigor mortis. That I wouldn't like so much. :D

I would do fine in your room 101! I can't hardly hear a damn thing. I was a drummer in a rockband, and I refused/didn't know how to play quieter, so the guitar and bass just cranked it up to be heard. They both wore earplugs, but when I tried them, I couldn't hear what the other guys were doing, so I just went without. Now my hearing is buggered up for life :(. But I don't hear all those stupid things like car alarms, carpentry, 50 Cent, and Emily's brother's laugh, so I'm happy :D.

I thought of a better one. A sauna. My room 101 is just a simple, ordinary, hot, steam-filled sauna. My throat would close up and I'd writhe on the floor like a beached fish till I passed out and died. I can't deal with humidity; even just on a muggy day it's like I'm trying to breathe under water.

a room full of clowns and monkeys......ugh worse than water torture...
no wait...better yet, an empty room. nothing at all. no writing on the walls, nothing to read, listen to or anyway to amuse myself. i think being left alone with my own thoughts for too long without anyone to share them with, or any way to distract myself....i have a tic in one eye just thinking about it.

OK more things for my Room 101, as well as cats.
People around me who constantly talk about themselves and how rich daddy is and how many ponies and tropical islands he bought them. Yet the girl I have in mind can't afford another pair of underwear *pukes*
Speakers with Slipknot, or 50 Cent... any RARRRR music or rap music.
Big TV screens with programmes like Casulty and ER where they think its really fun to show someones insides falling out across the operating table. It's not pretty. Don't do it.
The sound of a fox crying/screaming. It sounds like a baby being murdered. I don't like it.
And moths. Hitting the light and attacking me. Oh and wasps and bees, because they like to get stuck in my hair and go for my ears.

Hows about a room filled with corny twangy jingoistic corporate-Nashville pentatonic G-major Country Music. AAhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. And it’s stuck in your head not just in the room. AAAhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. It just repeats over and over and over.
“I was drunk the day my mamma got out of prison.”
And you can’t get it out no matter what. AAAAhhhhhhhhhhh. Not even if you those secret weapons like: “In a gotta devida” or “It’s a small world afterall.” I think I’m I’m going insane right now thinking about it.

LOL Sanch. That would be terrible. Why do I get the feeling you've had this experience recently? :D
My mother's halitosis. Or her clicking jaw.
Tied to a chair on a platform that rotates with the sun, so it's always in my eyes.
A room full of large, wet, slobbering, barking dogs.
The smell of coffee or popcorn, especially movie theater popcorn.
Being stuck on a very small high pinnacle. I hate heights!
That or being stuck in one of those motion rides where the screen shows you where your going. I get sick every time.

In summer, when I'm sitting outside, yes.
And that is common, I suppose, because I like sunbathing.
Oh, I hate being stuck in the sun. Count that with my 101. There's nothing worse to me than a sunburn, and everytime I feel the sun hitting my skin I think of cancer festering beneath the layers.

Oh my goodness, me too Shea. I hate hate hate the feeling of hot sun on my skin -- I imagine it frying bright red. Especially when I'm stuck in a stuffy car. I always try hiding my arms behind my back or up behind the headrest.

There's no such thing as a tan for me, I'm all burn, so I'd list that along with the hornets as my room 101.

Yep, I do alot of long distance Cycling. And once the pedaling rythm and the song rythm synch up there is almost nothing that can bump an awful song off. I usually just pedal along praying that some car will come by with a different tune blaring out the window. The last culprit was Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody"
"Scaramoosh - Scaramoosh will you do the Fandango. Send a bolt of lightning, very very frightning, Weee golly-layo, golly-layo, goly-layo Piccaro"
Well you get the idea.

Ah yes, but are you hearing Fog Horn or Freddie Mercury. Or perhaps Fog Horn imitating Freddie while riding a bicycle. This is what I found was so cool about your idea for the voice thread. The whole human language experiment is perpetually changing. We’re all lovers of literature on this forum and the ability to take little symbols on a sheet of paper or a computer screen and turn them into language and ideas is truly fantastic. We can take cuneiform tablets or hieroglyphics or Mayan pictographs and listen to humans who walked the earth thousands of years ago. I found it superbly interesting when you wanted to hear the voices of the people on this forum. Communication involves all of the senses and I often find myself wishing I could sit in a coffee house with the author of the book I’m presently reading and just chat. OK, well anyway, I’ll set your fears to rest; I don’t plan to start a thread on what people at this forum smell like.

Fool, that's the point of this thread. :D It's what would torture us the most to have to endure, not how we'd torture other people! (and you're calling Sanch sadistic?? :p)

Although it is a pleasure to be tortured, to curl up into a ball screaming in pain and agony in utter devestation, I often wish that it was happening to someone else, consider smiles reciprocated with just as much viviacity.

This might not have anything to do with room 101 but it just reminded me. When ever people talk about how Hitler burned all the Jews I'm like "damn..."
But then I was watching a documentary on Anne Frank And i found out that all the jews got gassed before being stuffed into an oven. When I heard that I got so angry and disappointed at the same time. Everyone keeps going on about how bad Hitler was for burning jews, but it wasn't so bad because they got gassed first. Man was I disappointed as hell...

05-16-2004, 02:34 AM
but not only were some of them burned alive, Hitler's scientists did nasty experiments on Jews... like injecting their eyes with salene solutions and really really weird stuff... stuff that a Junior High kid would sit around and think, "I wonder what would happen if...." (Like injecting weird things like salt to different approaches to brain surgery)... we actually learned alot from their experiments but it was at a terrible terrible price.
