Every Night in the Phantom's Opera

Let the audience in!

There will be Music in the Night...
Caves and tunnels, misty moats...
Trap doors and candlelight
Angels in mirrors, men in boats...
http://i165.photobucket.com/albums/u66/Debrasuzanne/tunnel/boat1.jpg
And Crystal Chandeliers
Crashing down around your ears!
So let the audience in...
Let his Opera begin!!!

Nice! Evoked a lot of scenes from the silent film version. I once managed to get The Hunchback of Notre Dame down to a 39 line sestina. You have one-uped me I think with this verson of The Phantom of the Opera!

Great stuff!

Wow! Thank you Pendragon....coming from you that is such an honor! but ...no ...haven't one-uped ya!... I would love to read your Hunchback poem! I am glad you liked mine...my poems have a rather limited audience...(I'm my own audience most of the time!)...but....Phantom is where the passion for my poems comes from ...so Ill just go with it..... and see where it goes!
I was sort of inspired by some of your poems...your style...

PS...For entertainment purposes only...LOL!

Night after night it’s the same thing…
From beginning to ending…
We’ve seen it before…
Yet we come back for more…
Why do we do it? Why???
When we know it’s gonna make us cry!!!
We know we can’t change it…
As much as we want to…there is no edit…
We can fast forward…slow down…pause & replay…
Stop it dead in its tracks…while we take time to pray…
That this time…is it too much to ask…
Please!!!… Don’t let Christine pull off his Mask!!!

A Little Tribute to Christine
(who has chosen The Phantom over Raoul... this time!)

I wonder...

If I were Christine...
What would I do?
Would I run to my Angel's side?
Would I always be true?
Would I have anything to hide?
Would Raoul hold a secret place in my heart...
That place where my Erik, would never be part?
This I could not answer, too...
Only Christine would know...
Have I ever been loved passionately by one? NO!
Not to mention...by Two!

Wow!...Thank you Adolescent09!...Encore?!!! OK! This one you sort of have to use you imagination...it's not necessarily POTO storyline...and the last stanza is from Edgar Allen Poe....

Dungeons, Dragon's & The Phantom's Lair...

Dungeons and Dragons!
Ha! Let them beware...
Dungeons of Black despair...
The Prisons of our Minds...
If you Dare...
Come down to the Lair...
Leave all thoughts of the world you knew behind...
Angels of Music, Angels in Hell...
Opera Ghosts and Phantoms dwell.
The Ladies and Mistresses, Keepers and Guardians of The Phantom's Secret Fire...
Pursued relentlessly by the Twin Dragons of Passion...'True Love' and 'Lustful Desire'
In this fantasy your roles are quite clear...
for the Phantom's Music and the Angel's voice are all that you hear.
The Ladies of the Lair
Our Dark Angel takes care...
And in return...
We shelter and love the child in Erik, in whose heart Beauty does burn.
Role playing fun?
With our beloved Phantom?
Yes!....just a fantasy deem...
No more...No less...
But here I digress...
'Is all that we seem, or dream...
A dream within a dream?'... I guess!

Hi Bakiryu! That's so cool being the pres. of your POTO Club....Leroux's story is my fave as far a literature goes...but my heart was stolen forever by Gerard Butler's portrayal of The Phantom in Andrew Lloyd Webber's Movie....GB gave the Phantom a voice, a face,a heart, & the soul of a lonely man...doomed to be an Angel in Hell...and there is nothing we can do to rescue him...except our own rewrite...an alternate... ending....

Being a South-Asian, I'm not much familier with the POTO, at least- not enough. :p
My point is, even though I'm not much into this topic, I've found your poems strong and sublime, which according to me is a very good thing(at least it inspires ignorant souls like me to know more!! :p )...
Oh and my favorite was "Dungeons, Dragon's & The Phantom's Lair" :) Very well done. :thumbs_up

Twilight Musings

So...again you drive in the car of your Dreams...
And, with CD blaring (Point of No Return!)...head down to the shore...
Take the exit off the raging freeway rushing through your mind...
Is the past what it seems?...
Has the future closed it's door?...
As you longingly gaze out to sea...the world you left behind...
The glistening moonlit swells...
And rolling, pounding waves...
Take your heart back...to the Lair in the Crystal Cave...

Where the Music of the Night, and the Phantom of your Dreams still dwells.

Thank you Pendragon! I'm sure going to read your Hunchback! This is so weird...I started reading Victor Hugo late last night!!! Spooky!!!
PS...I love your 'masked' man in fedora picture!

FYI...everyone....as you can tell my stuff isn't very deep or thought provoking....mostly just fun, silly musings.....and probably only a passing phase....but I hope not!

the tormented, beautiful face...
and kiss away all the heartache and fears...

an Angel on Earth deserves more than this...
his first...a virgin's...sweet, tender kiss...
the powers that be...great power they wield...
thought the Angel's fate they had sealed...
but in my dreams I do all that I can...
to help my Earthly Angel...become a Heavenly Man...

OK...so...I'm not sure if I'm posting right...I was hoping to post this one in the poetry section that is apparently 'broken'... this one is about the actor, Gerard Butler, who plays The Phantom, & King Leonidas in the movie "300", a fan's true encounter at the "300" Movie Premier in Los Angeles... I turned her post into a poem....

An Ode to ''flowergurl"... and Gerry Butler(aka The Phantom, & King Leonidas)

The Velvet Rope

Yes...I was there...and I had seen...
With witnesses to share...
That it wasn't a dream!
Hours of waiting...then...they came from nowhere...
Paparazzi Nazis, fans and fanboys were everywhere...
And I was part of that swelling throng...
Anticipation and excitement were in the air...
Above it all played Tyler Bate's '300' song.
As you emerged from your Limo...you gave us a wave...to us a sweet kiss...
The mere glimps of you...happiness and bittersweet bliss...
Like a King... the Red Carpet you ascended...
Many Peeps and Security attended...
You were only across the street...
But so very far away...
I never expected in my wildest dreams we'd meet...
Never expected you'd come our way....
Then Suddenly!!!....like a Prisoner Prince... you saw your chance...
Jumped the Velvet Rope.... and took your Stance!
There!....in the middle of the street!...arms open wide...
Your adoring subjects to embrace...
And with confident, deliberate stride...
Drew closer to the crowd... to greet us face to face!
And in familiar tones you acknowledged each one..."Yes, I received it!"..."Thanks for sending that!"..."Oh!...was that you?"..."How did you like my movie?"..."Do you like my New Blue Suit?"...
Gerry....to us your not only amazing....you're just too darn cute!!!
And like the thoughtful King you portray...
You inquired of our welfare in the crowd...and if we were OK!
So please... consider it a compliment if I've become an ardent fan...
I'm not the one to blame...You are truly an incredible man!
And to all of his devoted admirers...never give up Hope!
You just never know when G's gonna jump the Velvet Rope!!!

your poetry is awesome, I love musicals in general, Phantom isn't one of my favorites but it's still good, I love the story of Phantom but ALW isn't the greatest composer the world has ever seen, your poetry represents the story well...

Debrasue

Hi BroadwayBaby!..Yeah..I agree there are probably better composers out there...but this music(in the movie) goes straight for the heart...and the stage version of this story was lacking in something... then...magic happened...everything came together at just the right time...and a masterpiece(in my mind!lol!) was created!!!This movie version, like the stage version, was never meant to be 'Opera'...ALW is the father of the 'Rock' opera... a totally new & different animal...and the movie got so much flack for not being like the stage show...what's up with that? G. Butler's raw, sensual, untrained baritonish voice(he's not even classified!)... and amazing acting talent... brought such a fresh and passionate perspective to the Phantom...after 2 years.."I'm still obsessed"...but that's flotsem for another poem...and of course MOHO!!! (a trademark of an Operabouffe...at least 3 !!!'s) Thanks for reading my poems...I really do appreciate the feedback! But..there's only so much can be written about the same subject...so I rarely stick to the 'original' story line....just silly stuff...

Please set up a separate forum for the phantom of the opera, for both the novel and its movie adaptations!
I am such a phantom addict!
But I would agree that Weber's music will be more of a classic than the original novel, what do you folks think?
From the overture to child of loneliness, they are all must-haves.
