Hi there!
I've just finished reading the book WH recently, and noted that a lot of things in this novel are worth studying with attention - characters(e.g. Hezthcliff is considered by some an angsty man with a tortured soul), structure(gothic), plot, and even the many deaths in it, too many things...
What do you want to say about this novel? Anything, just share your opinions. Either a short statement or an essay will do perfectly fine. :yawnb:
I have recently written a paper about Wuthering Heights. My subject dealt with the resemblance of Wuthering Heights to Emily Bronte's life.
This novel is indeed worth studying, there are several points which, in my opinion, require some attention to fully understand the novel and the reason for it being so outstanding! (You must take into account the publication year)
The things which I chose to analyze were these: -
1. Settings – reference of the isolated place.
Reference of period – why the story is unsuitable for that time (Religion and Society code).
2. Violence
3. Complex relationships – Heathcliff and Catherine, Heathcliff and Cathy, Edgar and Catherine.
4. The death motive – a lot of characters die, many of them very young like the Bronte sisters.
5. Absence of a clear mother figure.
6. Hindley – as Emily's brother.
7. Tone – Gloomy tone (take into account the weather!)
8. Narrator – the special narration in Wuthering Heights - flashbacks and 2 narrators.

JuLe, you've pointed to a great truth. Some of the things you chose to analyze didn't come to my focus. (e.g. 5)
I've started to write a paper analyzing the many deaths in it.

Hello!
I'm half way through the book and I love it! Through these characters Bronte is speaking articulating ideas and thoughts that no modern writer could ever emulate. My favourite part so far is Catherine sitting at Nelly's knee and telling her that she's had dreams that have "altered the colour of her mind." Dreams that have gone "through and through me like wine through water." This writing is so majestic and beautiful and moving. I LOVE this book. I can't sleep tonight because I must continue reading. I love Heathcliff.

It is one of the most emotional novel I have ever read! Characters' personalities seem to be resembling the wildness of the moor...

I had to read the book last year in my Brit Lit class. It's the sort of book where, the first time I read it, I really didn't enjoy it, but once I had finished it, I realized just how engaging the novel really was and I immediately had to reread it, that time picking up on so much I had initially missed. This probably wasn't the sort of post you were hoping for, but oh well, I saw the thread and decided to put in my 2 cents!

THis morning I have just finished Wuthering Heights.
I am thinking about how the tragedy was brought about, mainly between Heathcliff and Cathy.
I am it's Cathy's peacockery and Heathcliff's determination to revenge. But what is the underlying motivator that initiates the peacockery and determination? I think it's the society class system, with rich people looking down upon the wretched. It is this system that makes Cathy marry Edgar in desire to be decent and makes Heathcliff to be humiliated, which in the end results in his ruthless revengence. But of course their personal weaknesses also play a great part. IMHO.

Mostly I loved the language... the vocabulary... brilliant. So precise in usage. Loved it.

I was surprised how dark the novel was. Coming in expecting a sentimental love story, I was greatly taken aback by the cruelty shown to Heathcliff and then practiced by him. It reminded me a lot of Kafka's The Trial in mood; it begins somewhat lighthearted--even comical--and then quickly becomes tragic.

I`ve just read WH and I,m astonished with the darkness and revenge and mostly long lasting love of hithclif.
I also respect Edgar,s love for catherin.
I have also seen it as a movie but I better love it as a novel. It takes me back at time.
