In my area there are no rock radio stations. We have two stations in the town near where I live and they are both country music stations. Can you believe that? My dad worked in radio in Memphis when I was a kid so most of the music I know or like is rock from the 70's. I'm not as old as I sound, but I can't hear the words in the stuff my younger brother listens to. It's just sounds like angry screaming to me.

Ya know, when I hear "skating away" by Tull I just can't relate to all the screaming.

It's kind of overwhelming picking out favorite songs because I have so many, it's hard to know where to start. I'll just do a random sampling of my 5 star rated songs and when there are multiple songs by one artist, I'll just stick with one and no Pink Floyd because it's just understood that every song of theirs is a favorite:

Man in the Box ~ Alice in Chains
Good Times Gonna Come ~ Aqualung
Dry the Rain ~ Beta Band
Testosterone ~ Bush
Just What I Needed ~ The Cars
Trouble ~ Cat Stevens
Amsterdam ~ Coldplay
Low ~ Cracker
Don't Drink The Water ~ Dave Matthews Band

Wow, good thought for a thread. I can pick lots of stuff, but first and foremost anything by the Rolling Stones. Here are perhaps my top ten Stones songs:
Jumpin' Jack Flash
Satisfaction
Gimme Shelter
Miss You
Sympathy For The Devil
Brown Sugar
Start Me Up
Tumbling Dice
Rough Justice
Wild Horses
Honky Tonk Women

Ok, there are eleven, I couldn't narrow it to ten. :D

I've never been one for rock songs. I have always been of the belief that the ALBUM is an art form and that songs are only a piece of a more cohesive work. So, my favorite albums? Oh Lord, don't make me decide! Here are some:

Animals- Pink Floyd
Brave New World- Iron Maiden
Black Sabbath- Black Sabbath
Zoso- Led Zeppelin
Rust in Peace- Megadeth
Dirt- Alice in Chains

Maybe it is so..but trust me, you're not missing on much  . What we listen to now is mostly anything but music if you ask me. I'm a person who cares more about the lyrics of a song, having said that, I can frankly tell you that I'm having a hard time listening to 'good' lyrics. There are very few bands and singers who can actually sing and have good songs these days.

Slipknot, metal? hu! You confuse me ;)

j/k. It's nu-metal or rapcore, so technically you can call it metal, but like stone sour, it's just not my thing.

As for some of my more preferred song, I took a look into my winamp and checked the play count, turns out all 10 are of the same album and played only once, so obviously, there is something wrong with that feature. The album was Painkiller by Judas Priest if anyone was wondering.

So I'll just list a few I can think of right now:

Painkiller - Judas Priest
The Longest Day - Iron Maiden
Wish You Were Here - Pink Floyd
House of the Rising Sun - The Animals
Heaven and Hell - Black Sabbath
Tears of the Dragon - Bruce Dickinson
A Forest - The Cure
Atlantis - Donovan

Throw in a gazzillion other bands and I am happy.

But I better not forget HANSON with MMM BOP! That has to be the best rock song of all time!

I love anything by Springsteen, Tom Petty, Zepplin....Chris Izaak makes me weak in the knees....Stone Temple Pilots "Thank You" CD, Chili Peppers "Stadium Arcadium" - 30 songs & I love 'em all.....Jethro Tull, The Who, The Stones, Cream, Traffic, Blind Faith (all the Eric Clapton/Steve Winwood bands), Alice in Chains......

I'm sure there are a lot more.

Oh, I figured someone'd nick me for that... but I'll proudly claim her (men of honor shouldn't abandon women simply to save their reputation...:) ); look, I like really engergetic drums and guitar, and beneath the questionably shallow lyrics and bratty teen vocals are some serious rock players strutting their stuff. Her studio guitarists and drummers are top notch.

Besides, the post asked for our favorite rock songs - not our favorite "credible rock" artists. Consider her my guilty pleasure :D
