How would we write poetry today? Is an independent thing of whimsy, or shall we return to the pagan epics where the gods were feared for having dominion over the next crop season. Do we spill our sensitives, our thoughts, our pains, or our pleasures? Or should we search for the inner meanings behind this world and find our sensations from within this quest?

We should write poetry about whatever it is we want to write about. No restrictions.

A poet writes from the heart not the mind. Write from your emotions because poetry is all about feeling the poem. And dare anything. You may notice our form poetry competition. We have several newly invented styles already, and there will be more to come. Then we have the picture poetry contest, where one is invited to poetically describe what he or she gets out of viewing a picture. Form poetry is bent to the extreme. Go for it! That's my real advice. The only thing is, know your audience: i.e., who do you want to reach with this poem? Some poetry isn't for everybody and some isn't for every magazine. But if you write it, I would go 10 for 10 that someone else would like to read it somewhere. Get a copy of The Poet's Market for the current year. Big help on markets for your poetry. Not much money in it, but recognition. Good luck!
