No it's not about rolling around in the hay with a beautiful women!

It's about these pesky little things call pollen that nature produces in abundance at certain times of the year. It makes you sneeze all day and gives you a runny eyes and nose and even a sore throat! Your eyes become red with itching!

I love nature - is that how nature repays me for all my love and loyalty? ;-(
Why such vindictiveness? oh the irony of it all... ;-(

Are you a Hay Fever sufferer?
If so do you think nature is being cruel to us?

We kind of stopped reading this topic after what the first sentence revealed. Sorry.

EDIT:Okay, we didn't. We don't think we have hay fever, although there is some kind of strange allergy to something about which we are not certain, if it makes you feel any better.

LOL :-) I guess no sympathy from you then. I must suffer alone ;-(

I do suffer every year and i am afraid it gets worse. Without my allergy pills i am completely helpless. I can't even see properly (with all this sneezing and red eyes) and i feel very dizzy. Now with my pills i get sleepy for the first weeks and then i turn insomniac. I too love nature very much (and flowers but they make me suffer so much every spring so i don't have any in my appartment -only cactus and plans which have no blooms- not the type of woman to whom you might send flowers ;) ). I don't know if it is a vindictiveness of nature but it is surely a bad compilation of genes!

That is just terrible isn't it. My mother has a beautiful garden - I dare not walk in it ;-(

No way to romance you then ;-( Your boy friends/husbands would be saving money though ;-)

Same for me Lote. My parents live in the suburbs and they have a big garden with lots of flowers. I live in the heart of the city. No flowers there ;)

The first time my boyfriend bought me flowers (when we first met 4 years ago) he was forced to throw them away  So now he just buys me books ;)

Thanks Durgamol.

It is said that Ultra hygenic Modern lifestyle is causing all this exponential rise in Hay Fever sufferers. But I disagree. Whenb I was a kid - dirt was my best friend! I rolled in it. Bathed in it. And I still end up with Hay Fever! ;-(

No flowers but lots of pollution I guess from car fumes ;-(

Then in your case loss of flowers from boyfriends is not a bad thing :-)

Lote i feel sorry for you. I had the same problem, i have used every single pill (well almost) untill i found out the ones i use now. They are said not to cause weariness or have other side effects, but in my case they do. At least for the two months i use them (april and mai when my allargy shows up) i can be a normal person (no sneezing, no red eyes etc) with a slight headache and a bad mood

I don't have such severe allergies as Lote and manolia, but I do suffer from them...congestion...itchy, burning eyes, sneezing and headaches. It isn't fun. My sympathies to you both.

I have a deviated septum (a surprisingly common problem) so my sinuses never drain properly and that coupled with frequent congestion leads to getting sinus infections fairly frequently. I used to take medication to help with it, but my insurance no longer pays for the pills and they are too expensive to purchase out of pocket. Over the counter decongestants don't work for me, so no help there.

Do you think our ultra hygenic modern lifestyles is contributing factor to increasing number of hay fever sufferers?

I am not really sure about that. There may be some basis for considering the idea, but while I have a basic idea of how the body reacts to allergans and how allergies develop I don't really know enough about the subject to offer an opinion.

One thing that may be slightly related is that ultra hygiene leads to creating resistant strains of bacteria. For example, unless we are preparing to operate on a person in a sterile enviroment, it really isn't necessary to wash our hands with antibacterial soap. Plain soap and hot water are considered to be suffiencient. Children are often treated with antibiotics for ear infections, but sometimes that backfires and creates more problems than it solves.

But again, that isn't directly related to allergies, so make of it what you will! :)

Another sufferer... I'm not alone!

It is the worst when the roof of your mouth itches! (At least that's my opinion). I have found a small relief with Chlor-Trimiton sold over the counter, unfortunetly it will make you sleepy - of course if you're like me you will embrace the chance to sleep without sneezing, and blowing and wiping etc.

Is this some sort of allergy? What kind of environment did you grow up in?

I have pollen allergy also...

You know, when your eyes get red and burning, you usually can't help rubbing them, which only makes it worse. (At least I've always found it hard not to touch my eyes during allergy season) My solution is to wear make up. Some eyeshadow and mascara prevents me from rubbing my eyes and that way I feel much better. :D

I can't have that because I drive.

Well, for girls it's a good way  I actually started wearing make up daily only because of my allergy, and later I got used to it :D

 Well, it hasn't worked that way yet

Now the summer is coming and my allergy isn't that bad any more. Spring is always the worst, especially when the birch trees are blooming.

I used to be quite allergic to it all, dogs, cats, tree pollen, plant pollen, dust...H20 j/k

but for the last year or so, the only things that have bugged me are Animals (cats and rodents specifically, dogs not so much) and spruce tree pollen.

If I do react to anything, or If I know I'll be incontact with an allergan, I use reactine as a bit of pre-emptive and Tylonol allergies / sinus as a reliever.

It seems to work for me, just don't use the nighttime tylonol version, unless you want to fall asleep, or be pulled aside by the police to check if you are under the influence of some illicit narcotic :D

The ear drum thing... BE CAREFUL... I have had my left ear drum rupture twice! It is a very painful experience - now I am left with some hearing impairment, nothing serious just an annoyance.

I'm allergic to pollen, animals (especially dogs and cats, and I can't go anywhere near to stables or cowbarns), nuts and almost all fruits and vegetables that haven't been cooked. Most of my allergies started when I was about six years old. I really hope that some day I'll be able to eat raw carrots like everyone else again.
