Yea... it's in some other language I don't understand, though, so it's pretty tough looking for what I exactly want.

yeah, did I get it wrong? Sorry. I'm a man. An egotistical one at that. So I have a tendancy to assume that people I respect are also men (the whole self-association thing) until I'm corrected. To my credit, I can't see your lovely girlish figure over the internet.

Cool! I'm glad I can pass as a guy online.

emily655321
05-04-2004, 06:55 AM
LMAO it might also be the presence of the letters J-O-E in your name. Although, I can usually tell when I'm talking to a guy or a girl online. I think it's that guys tend to describe in terms of sensory experiences, and girls in terms of how things make them feel. I'm dead serious. Like, a girl might say, "I'm so lethargic today, I can't get myself going." But a guy would say, "I've been on the couch all day." That's another thing; guys are concise. Kik could probably have said this in two sentences. :D But even when they talk more than a girl, it seems to be in shorter, more to-the-point sentences, even if there are a lot of them.

To sum up :D I think of it this way: women use commas, men use periods (full stops, Brits -- haha I got a lot of stares in English class in Britain. :p)

Although, an interesting anecdote: I go in Yahoo chat sometimes when I'm bored and nothings jumping in here, and guys know I'm a chick, but girls almost always assume I'm a guy.

ajoe
05-04-2004, 07:55 AM
^ Does that mean you're neither a proper guy nor girl?

emily655321
05-04-2004, 10:24 AM
LMAO note the phrase "guys know I'm a chick." :D I guess other girls just think I talk like a guy. Which could be because I prefer the company of guys to girls. LOL I'm a traitor to the "sisterhood."

simon
05-04-2004, 01:36 PM
traitors are fun

Koa
05-04-2004, 04:06 PM
ajoe is female??? oh dear!!!
problem is, her nickname makes me jump everytime cos it's similar to the surname of one of my teachers (1 letter is different), so I always have a feeling like it's him posting, before I notice the different letter... :D:D:D

I'm often careful of not revealing too easily if i'm a boy or girl in the internet...
And emily is damn right, boys are concise, they say in 1 line what I say in 10!!!

verybaddmom
05-04-2004, 04:09 PM
i dont think that preferring male company makes you a traitor to sisterhood Em, in fact i think that is a trait of being a sister! it is infinitely preferrable to spend time with men, from an evolutionary perspective anyhow. i think one needs to spend time with women only to see how the competition works.....whew. maybe im the traitor!!!!

i think i have about three female friends. the rest are all male, and i find those friendships less complicated for some reason.

Koa

I have only 1 or 2 (let's say half) male friends. I never could feel good with boys. I feel less judged by girls, even if they're posh hateful ones, I don't care of their judgements on me. And on my aspect. They listen to my endless babbling. I've grown up seeing boys as monsters who were there only to make fun of me...Later it developed into seeing them like another world I totally can't join. Now it's different, I don't see them that way anymore but I can see the result since I still fear them to death. If I'm aoround girls I don't care about what I do/say, if boys are around I tend to censor myself, and be more nervous. Only exception is the boy (animal-style ;)) who was at school with me, cos in 5 years we developed a great relationship (he was the only male cos it was a languages school and the percentage of girls is so much higher...).

That's funny, I think I have trouble with guys because I'm TOO close to them. All my friends seem like my brothers, and who wants to date their sister?? But I'm just so much more comfortable around them -- with girls I can always tell they're thinking one thing while they're saying something else to me. Even if it's good, I don't like seeing that in their eyes. On the occasions that a guy is thinking something else while he's talking to me, at least it's pretty darn apparent what it is. :p

ajoe
05-04-2004, 11:02 PM
Well, if guys are concise, then it's a sure bet that simon is one of them? :p

Hey, Koa, I've always thought you're a guy, too, for some reason. I guess "Koa" makes me think of Koala and koalas remind me more of males?? (I have such a weird reasoning! http://www.addis-welt.de/smilie/smilie/diverse/35.gif)

As for me and guys... I actually prefer guys, too, cause most girls I know are weirdly obsessed with shopping and make-ups. But a few girls are simple and nice and I like them. :)

emily655321
05-04-2004, 11:09 PM
LOL well, obviously, there are acceptions to every rule.
(RE: conciseness ... real word? don't care)

I think the only female friends I have are like "a friend of a friend." Except my very bestest buddy, who I've known since 3rd grade, and who I'm wayyy closer to than any other friends -- more like a sister I share a brain with, -- and is a very cool chick indeed. No shopping for her. No. :D

bah...what's wrong with shopping? without shopping one would never find new books.....
i shop, and im not a girly girl.

emily655321
05-05-2004, 12:28 AM
I admit, I shop too. You'll never be able to drag me out of a shoe store, although the pointy-toed, thin-soled, stilletto things popular right now nauseate me. But it's terribly frustrating, because I have NO money, and I'm definitely not the type that enjoys just looking around and not buying something.

ajoe
05-05-2004, 12:32 AM
Nothing's wrong with shopping. I shop, too (at cheap stores; emily, since you claim to have no money *wink, wink*), but I find it weird when someone puts "shopping" as a #1 hobby.

emily655321
05-05-2004, 12:36 AM
Icky icky. I can't begin to go into the reasons that's so wrong. :D Shopping is an indulgence. Now, Salvation Army/Good Will is an addictive hobby to say the least. I don't care how long it takes me to get all that nasty smelling dust off me, I can stay in there for hours and hours.

OMG I am so there with you, and to me there is little that is as exciting as coming home with a great score...i love finding cool stuff for next to nothing! like a great book for forty nine cents or a brand new jacket for two bucks...i usually do the happy dance all the way home on the bus.
do people actually list shopping as a hobby?? eewww. you are right. i wouldnt want to hang with them either. lack of priorities. now bargain hunting is totally different, right?

emily655321
05-05-2004, 12:51 AM
Of course. Especially if you rip your lovely cheapo stuff up and make even weirder looking clothes out of them, like Molly Ringwald. :D Except when I find something cool enough, I usually keep it the way it is, because I'm afraid of screwing it up, and also because I can't bring myself to destroy something. I don't even like cutting up old cloth for a quilt. But that's always the plan I have when I go in looking.

just to make a quick point here....what is the original topic of this thread? we have since discussed what....why men and/or women make better friends, chicks that shop too much, bargain hunting...and all that on the last page!
hmmm.....who keeps on topic?
no one keeps on topic.

Hey, Koa, what's up? :D

Well evertyhing...not really, but when in your country football (ARGGGH soccer) players are on the main news, you know who he is whether you want it or not... Even my mum does, and believe me that says it all. Then anyway I used to be quite into sports...

Btw...cool that you thought I was a guy ahah :) I like androginy, even virtual one ;)

Assuming that's true, why would they want/need to?
They've got other (and much nicer) traits. :D

Koa
05-05-2004, 04:26 PM
Wow I hadn't even read that sentence...I must disagree cos a lot of girls I know are into sport, even much more than me...especially football (soccer), cos as I said before it's a real basis of life here, or formula 1. It's not uncommon at all.

Btw, Maradona is back in hospital... Not that I looked for this news, I was just watching the 8pm tv news (the main tv news of the day) and it was in the headlines: as I said, if you were here you'd know it, willing or not.

Yeah, unsurprisingly. After 4 days of eating what he shouldn't have, and after taking a swim when it was 4·C outside and many other things, he had to check in at the hospital again. Sadly, I don't think that he'll ever change...
