Well Do you consider yourself a newbie or an original, or just in the middle?

NOOB! But no an ignorant noob who murders the eyes and souls of the mebers of this site with 4,000,000 smileys per post. No, I will not resort to cheap thrills and computer graphics...

LOL smiley---> :D <---smiley Smilies (another one of my aesthetically-based misspellings) aren't an obsessive newbie thing! Plenty of the oldies around here use them too. They're like happy little twinklings in the midst of the black and whatever-pukey-color-this-is. :D :D

I'm a newbie, obviously. Looking at the chronological list of members on this site, however, I noted that this spring has had the greatest number yet of new members who actually post. So I'd say, if you joined before the new year, you're off the newbie hook.

[horrible cheat deletion EDIT] I've been rambling and editing this post script into the ground, so I'm going to indulge and just cut it out altogether, okay? :p

I put original, but maybe I should have put middle. There are lots of people here who outdate me, but I've contributed more (quantity, not necesarily quality :D) than anyone except Faye, Amuse, and the late great Abdo. So I thought original was justified.

I'd say so. That's a good point, actually, because it points out (sorry, couldn't think of a different word :p) the different ways of thinking about member "status" here. I was surprised when I realized that VBM was almost as new as I was -- the same month -- because she seemed already to be well "integrated" in the discussions and on such familiar terms with everyone. But within two weeks I realized, so was I. Sometimes it feels weird to remember that I'm such a recent member, and at others I can't believe I've already been here for a whole month. But then again, some people here with less than a hundred posts I found myself thinking of as newbies, only to notice that they've been around for months longer than a lot of the top ten posters!

Its funny, I associate everyone in pairs. Faye and Koa, Shea and Den, Crisaor and Stanislaw, Emily and VBM, ect... and if you look at my pairs, they all joined pretty close to the same time, and have close to the same amount of posts.

Not sure what that has to do with what we're talking about, but I somehow made the connection in my head .

Oh my god, that's so weird. I totally see what you mean. Mando coolness, Kik. :D

Original all the way.... Infact this is my 1000th post!

I feel so very talkative...and somehow I'm not proud of it. Anyway it took me more than 1 year to get to this, but I think most of my posting was done during the past few months, with all these new talkative people... :D Uh gotta go now so I can't ramble on...

Kik, you associate me and fay cos we 're forum sistahs! :D

Alright!!! I want to know more about this great abdo. Someone was claiming I was him/her? Did I miss something?

Somebody who REALLLLLLLYYYY needs a life and compulsively procrastinates to the point where it's NOT EVEN FUNNY. Where's THAT category???

Abdo was the late great forumer who got unceremoniously booted out by admin and now resides in a better world. He had numerous alter egos, all sadly dead now, so it's kinda like a joke I guess. 'omg... are you abdo??' You could get pretty paranoid trying to pick them out if you weren't in on the conspiracy. [pre-obvious ones]

I have WAAAAYYYYYY too many posts. It's gotten to the point where it's just plain embarassing.

Thats funny fool, cause your six months newer than me, and I consider myself original. That makes me wonder, you older ones (Koa, Faye, Shea, Den, Stan, Fool, ect...) where do you guys draw the line between newbs and originals? I was thinking about that and I realized that I consider myself original, but I consider everyone since me (perhaps with the exception of Sub) new  . Am I still a newb to you guys?

you two are kind of paired in my mind; until you said that, i figured you two started writing around the same time, what a surprise that you didn't - never noticed.

i registered five months ago (november), consider self in the middle.

I would say I'm in the middle, because although I've been here for as long as a lot of people I almost never post, and have a tendency to disapear for months at time. I think I've been dropping by fo almost a year now though. It's kinda embarrassing when compared to people like Fayefaye and others I have put just a drop in the bucket in regards to all the posts around here...maybe this should inspire me to get my act together (probably won't though;) )

I guess I could be consider an old-timer... i certainly feel old... and tired... tired like that guy in One flew over the cukoos nest.

I declare myself part of the newbie crowd that is flocking in, though much welcomed.

...Did a little site research and...

-This place was here clear back in '01, but there was hardly anyone who posted more than 5 posts until...

Munro, Eric Son of Chuck, and Crisaor in '02

...then came apstudent, dumblikeapoet, Shea, Koa, and Den in the early months of '03

I would say that these eight are who I would really count as "originals" (although some aren't around anymore), with FoolOnTheHill, and Abdo missing the March cutoff only by a smidge, and probably really qualifying as old gild.

...then there was a gap in dedicated new members until the end months of '03 when we got FayeFaye, Stanislaw, Sindhu, Isagel, IwilkikU, Azmuse, and Subterranean.

Everyone after '04 I call a newbie. Thank heavens they came though--due to the recent exodus of old members from the site they are needed...new blood! Yay!

I didn't include in this survey people who rarely post (such as myself) and any who I accidently missed. Sorry if it was you!

Okay, so while i am up there in posts, i still consider myself a newbie. i dont feel that i have contributed a whole lot to the literature discussions, although i am right there whenever the conversations veers off topic. *wink wink*

The oldest member that I actually see post from time to time (although it has been quite a while) is Vronaqueen.

Browse through the archives, you can find pretty much about Abdo there (if you have the patience). :)

Piquant, I noticed that pattern too. Weird. Especially since most people just happened upon the site, rather than being referred.

I delved into the archives and members list and all that investigative-research-type-sneaky-stuff about a week and a half ago. That's how I learned the History of AbdoRinbo. I would recommend the activity to all the newbies, frankly. I feel like I have a better mental map of the whole forum and the relationships of other members, et cetera et cetera, if you know what I mean.

I feel like one of those oooooold wrinkly people of a village, whom people go ask about the whole history of their country :D :D:D

I'm amazed at piquant's deidication in making that chart. Nice job!

And I'm still amazed at the energy of the 'newcomers', such as emily and badmom and AP... and less recently faye and kik... Things are really different from when I first bumped in here, and used to post once every few weeks just when i was extremely bored... Then things got more and more interesting, but the real borderline is Abdo. Before him I was 'scared' of posting even a little joke, the atmosphere was generally serious, the offtopics rare... Then it all was loosened up and here we are generalchatting all the time and having addictive fun!

Lolita

n00b is l33t speak for 'newbie'... or noobie.
l33t - or |_337 - is computer speak for computer g33k/geek people.
Almost as irritating as txt tlk really. I won't use it *lol*

*gasp* Am I on the countdown to 1000 already? Oh my, probably shouldn't be considered an achievement in my case. :p It's shocking and disturbing how addictive this place is! But the games eat up a lot of it.

918...less than 24 hours ago. Now I see 990... Emily, I love it when I find someone who's more talkative than me, so I don't hear only my own voice in an embarassed silence!!! :D
