View Full Version : Your pet words, phrases and idioms?

There are a few words/phrases/idioms which we tend to over-use at times, without seeing if there is a strong need for them in the situation. What are those words/phrases/idioms for you? :D

I have noticed I use the words: well and quite a lot. In phrases, I tend to use in my opinion a lot! :p

I use the word proverbial a lot. But I like doing that, ha ha! Another one I use is prolific. These are just such good words, cannot scatter them enough!

Now, not related yet is somewhat in the idea of this thread, a group of Engineers that I hobnob with continually use the word essentially. For EVERYTHING!! In EVERY conversation. ARGHHH!! :flare:

seeing as..... i picked it up on LitNet and instantly fell in love with it.. at school we only learned stilted expressions like taking into account, considering.... i never heard seeing asbefore.

definitely (nope, my dear native speakers, it's not spelled definately, it's got an i like finite :D)

there are lots more which I can't think of right now...

I forgot to add Yeeeeeeeeeeeeees which I tend to use quite a lot, especially whenever I am excited!
