This was on the "Ask the Person Below You" thread a while back, and it got me to wondering about the rest of ...uh ...us, I guess, even though I already know why I'm here. :D Then VBM reminded me of it again today/yesterday when she mentioned that she came here for help with her essay. So, what first drew you to the site, and what made you decide to join the forum?

I was looking all over the internet for an (albeit copyright-infringing) online text of A Clockwork Orange for a friend on IM, because he hadn't read it. I was so excited to find this and "The Literature Page" -- not quite as good, -- and I joined to request the book. Before I posted I read another in which Admin reminded its poster of that darn copyright law, but I asked for it anyway. Then I checked out the rest of the forum, and joined in, cause keeping my mouth shut when I have an opinion (always) and a forum in which to express it (no pun intended on "forum"), is 100.1% impossible.

So, were you referred, or did you happen upon it looking for school, or what?

I was looking for an online book club that read books that I wanted to read. I wasn't interested in all the "commercial" clubs going on, not that I've been a very active particapant so far but hopefully that will change now that I'm done with my class.

Boy, it was a while ago, but I had been reading "The Count of Monte Cristo" and was trying to find out what was the reasoning for Dumas using the "Countess G--". I couldn't figure out why he couldn't just give her name. Scince then, I've gotten married and started school again, and I've gotten a few opinions on the matter, but I'm really not satisfied in them.

However, the plus is that I found the site, and whenever I talk to my husband about some of the things we discuss, I usually refer to it as "my site." Other than my e-mail and student account, this is the only one that I use regularly (and the most). :D

I too came here initially looking for (Huxley) etexts ... other than Brave New World. :p

I was so happy to see Chrome Yellow included, but, ACK!!!!!!!!!! Chrome is spelled wrong ! the H is missing. argh argh argh!!

Anyway, I've stuck around as I've made a few friends and this place is a great break for me when I need one from all the reading I do for work...

I was just tired of language of papers and books. Wished to get know vivid English. Searched for English forums and find it. Choose this forum because of literature. I like American literature. most of the time while I'm here I read messages.

Found the forum, registered just to ask if someone knew if it still was copyrighted...chose crappy nickname thinking I'd never visit again, but I actually did when I was really bored... got addicted a few months later and now can't leave it!!!

oh, yeah, and after a hiatus i returned as az without the z. the return was because isagel wanted to read some of my stuff, and though i'd posted it elsewhere, hadn't made that clear. plus fayefaye was so sweet. well it all worked out.

I believe it was a dark and stormy night during midterms and the roomy was sound asleep and all through the dorm all the creatures were at house parties and not as sound was heard, so I looked on the net for other intelligent life forms that could converse with me about books and life.

I was looking for a character analysis of George from A Room With a View <shudder>. I didn't find one, but I found the key word searchable text and used it to write my own. I got an A on the presentation, and couldn't stop talking to these crazy people. Namely, Faye, Abdo, Sindhu, Jay, Koa, Den, Shea. Since then I've LOVED getting to know so many great people. We've had some good ones come and go, and some good ones come and stay. *group hug*

A friend recommended the site after I mentioned i'd like to join an online book club. I'd always wanted to join one but can't attend any of my local ones due because of schedule conflicts. Also while I'm relatively new to forums I find them good stress relief and use them for a break in the middle of the day when I'm working (hence my frequent posts!) and the one i initially joined has had lost my interest recently so I needed a new place to post random thoughts!

Thanks for your warm welcome ppl!

'that thing you keep calling me'
'ignoramus'
'yes, that means I'm dumb, doesn't it??' [homer holding dictionary before mooning for rebuttle]

Aww *group hug* *begins to gag on the sacchrine* Well, anyway.. yeah this is the first time I've really really enjoyed getting to know so many new people at once -- and loved them all! And the average IQ level certainly is a plus, Faye, i agree. :D :D

LOL Even if that was true, everyone here is a far cry from the kind of people one usually meets "out there" on the internet. It's my imagination acting up I know, but I always feel like coming here I'm somehow shutting the door behind me on the rest of the net, and taking refuge in a friendly, quiet place. Like going inside a library when it's raining or something. :D

In a small sense... I needed examples of archetypes in literature for an AP English project I put off for four months. I was going to ask for them on the boards, but go sidetracked and now dont know what to do. I belong to a skiing website/message board thing... yeah, they are ignorant little eighth graders who call everyone the n-word. This site is a welcomed change, and a place to stretch my poetic muscles, which happen to be in atrophe, but maybe all of this might just be me...

In a large sense... I dont know why I am here, but I do have some time to figure it out. Heck, Im only 18 and have at least four years of college ahead of me. I know I have a purpose, probably something artistic, as I escaped a horrible accident involving my eyes, a model rocket engine, teen age debauchery, and a night with nothing to do with only minor burns and one eyebrow. So yeah, look for big things from me in the future...
afterthought: (haha, sarcasm doesnt read so well online...)

I think I came here looking for 1984, and then stumbled in here and I think someone tied me down to a chair, because I can't leave!:D

:D That's cool. Good luck to you. I almost registered on a French message board once for the same reason, but I wasn't brave enough. I thought they'd think I was silly. Now I realize that we're all our own toughest critics, and it's a lot of fun to talk to people with different experiences of the language.
