has anyone taken notice of the full moon tonight?!?!! from where i was standing earlier, the NY skyline looks practically bleached by those milky mittens!

i was taking a walk earlier and suddenly i was overcome by this primordial territorial urge (:p ) to howl at the moon, but what came out was short of an Arf!

so in my moonlight peripatetic musing i began to wonder how one would actually write the sound of a howl in words, which brings me to the reason for this post.

i'm looking for the best howl you can give in words. the only restriction is that you can't cheat and look up any howl online. let it come from your soul. (i think Virgil is a good candidate for this one :p )

ok, here's my try:

Owwww, owww, owwwwwwwwwwwwwwwaaaa! :p

i'm not sick but i'm not well. :p

Hmmm, for a non-howling onomatopoeia word, I kind of like "sizzle". It sounds so...so sizzly. Then there is "squish" another good one. But if it is a howl you want, well let me see....

woooo...wooo...waaaooooooh!

(that is the dismayed howl of an embarrased wolf.) :p

aaaaAHROOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooo

Speaking of howling at the moon.... I just learned today that a "Blue Moon" is NOT the second full moon in a month, as I had previously thought. The true definition of "Blue Moon" is the THIRD full moon in a SEASON that has FOUR full moons instead of the usual THREE.

why is it called a blue moon?

why is it called a blue moon?

Each and every full moon has a "name" January's is the Long Moon, October's is the Harvest Moon, December is the Snow Moon, etc. Those "extra" moons needed a name.... nobody is quite sure why Blue was chosen... there are MANY theories; but, they're just that.... theories... nothing definitive.

And, Sleepy...... Where's your howl?
