In your own words what would you say transcendentalism is and what are some of the specific beliefes of Emerson and Thoreau??

My Advanced English class has to a little thing about this as part of our final but i can't seem to get this question and be able to put it in my own words. If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated :)

thank you in advance :)

Transcendentalism might be best understood as a mystical movement. The only thing that is common among the transcendentalist writers is an attempt to transcend the physical world, to show that there is something more. I think that Emily Dickinson's poetry is very much like Sufi poetry.

You might to check out these sites to see if they will help you.
