If you're that far in the mire, bite the bullet and go here (http://www.sparknotes.com/lit/animalfarm/themes.html).

You can learn about symbolism and its use in Animal Farm at the same time!

Very good choice of book to discuss symbolism, it's probably the best example ever written, which is why it's such a favourite of English teachers. Once you've read that, cruise around the Animal Farm sub-forum here and you'll see lots of threads to check out.

Piece of cake.

*sigh* not spark notes :bawling: LOL
a symbol is anything that could have a secondary (usually deeper) meaning. such as a heart meaning love, a scar meaning past pains, shadows representing fear or evil and so on. as far as things in animal farm a few examples are: the name snowball, the beasts of England, candy mountain, and the end of the story (last few paragraphs). Another aproach to this is that all the characters are symbolic to the soviet union and represent a person, group of people, or idea. I'll let you find that out for yourself cuz otherwise it would ruin the fun of writeing an essay:) if you need any more help feel free to ask me...or use sparknotes if you have to LOL
