Actually these make real sense only if read together- so I am putting them in a single post. Do comment, please!
1. Never written.
I wrote a pretty poem
yes, pretty, whimsical as it is was the only name for it
And was Praised by everyone and i took the praise with pretty smiles
By chance perhaps, next week I read in a torn old book
Of a girl whose homework was to write a pretty poem
No mother, Drunken Father and six smaller than her
By the time she had got them all to eat and into bed
She hardly remembered the ABC,
Next day, she told the master
With a pathetic lack of grammar "I can't write no pretty poem."
I cried for tears came easily then,
And to be honest I do not know
If I cried for the girl's plight
Or for the way Grammar was mutilated
Or for all the pretty poems
That were not and never would be written.
2. The Original Candy Girl.
Aren’t I sweet, too good to be true?
Make no mistake; I’m the original candy girl.
I’ll never pick a fight, I‘m always amiable.
If I smiled anymore, you couldn’t take the dazzle
If I want the limelight I gauge it subtly
And when plans flop and I fall on my face
I’ll scramble up and smile again
And I’ll act as if I don’t mind being off stage.
Oh, I’m the original candy girl all right
You won’t find a greater coward if you search all night
3. I'll never let you know. You did not touch me and so you think I am a virgin?
Oh, technically you were perhaps right
A scan might reveal a hymen unbroken
But in that other world, behind my closed eyelids
My virginity was lost long ago, and no, not to you.
You refused to admit you cared
And still, I may have clasped your hands
A moment longer than usual when saying goodbye.
Egoist, you might have assumed I yearned for you
But you will never know for sure.
You will suffer the torment of doubt,
And so pay off your debt
Think of me in bed, with a new stranger each night
Pretend you don't care, but I can't be fooled twice
Remember- I started pretending much before you!
