Hello All,

What is your Idea of a Perfect Library?

In my Imaginary Library, books will not be ordered by author or titles; fact or fiction or by genre but by MOODS. For example if you are feeling happy - all books will be shelved under this banner. If you are feeling sad, all books will be ordered on the shelf labelled "Sadness" etc..

And this process can be futher refined for example:

Sadness
Sorrow
Despair
Hate
Anger
Hope
Joy
Bliss
Euphoria
Vengeful
Vindictive

etc etc...whatever mood you happen to be in there will be a book under these kinds of headings :-) :-)

What say of this idea :-)

If you have Perfect Idea of Library - what that will be? :-)

Come on join us for an amusing banter :-)

Regards,
Lote

Well, I'm old fashioned actually, so I'd probably just order them by genre..lol
And I don't quite get your idea...you mean you're gonna order them according to the mood in which you were, when you bought them? or the mood which the book gave you? or what...? lol

The library of my dreams would be a large room, where there were a lot of bookshelves, a fireplace, a couple of nice chairs, maybe a sofa and large windows so that one could sit on a window sill reading.

I would group them by literary movement and and original publishing date.

More imagination?

By cover material: leather bond, paper etc.
By color of cover.
Alphabetical order ... by the protagonist's name.

I like the idea of ordering them by date of publication. Also, since I'm in comp lit, it would be quite useful to have my books organized by author's country of origin. or the book's language first, and then country of origin within language.

Also, I would always keep space in my ideal library, a little corner, for all of my absolute most favorite books.

I would have a library with an unending supply of books all organized by author, genre and all sci-fi, manga, or sci-fi manga. I would also have cushions everywhere and magazines. That way i would never have to leave!

I support the "by date of publication". And how about sorting by colour it evokes? I'm feeling white - a greek tragedy (don't ask me as for why I make this association); I'm feeling green and red - I'd read Wuthering Heights; gray - Hard Times; dark grey - a Beckett novel; deep blue - Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues under the Sea; yellow - Of Mice and Men (for some reason I don't quite understand); etc.

Aside from everything mentioned above (which are all great :D), I would also like my perfect imaginary library, if possible, to have a device that would be able to tell me the author and title of the book that I can't remember after I tell it a vague or rambling summary of the book.

For example: "I forgot the title/author, but the story was about a man yadda yadda yadda" and then the device will say "oh, that sounds a lot like -insert book here-" and voila, found the book I've been looking for. Wishful thinking, I know, but it'll come in handy whenever I don't have time or am too lazy to peruse the shelves. http://smilies.vidahost.com/contrib/corky/smilies15.gif

I don't need to imagine. The most perfect library is the John Rylands Library - it's a beautiful gothic building with stacks and stacks and stacks of old books. The atmosphere in there is fantastic. In the historic reading room there are stained glass windows and stone carvings which stand on pillars of Shakespeare, Milton, Bacon, to name just a few. There are dragons on the ceiling. It's just beautiful and if I could have a library it would be exactly like that.

As are books ;)

Hmm, it's futuristic you want hey? Then, if I can't have my actual perfect library, what I would like is a system whereby I think of the book I want, and it instantly downloads into my head. A psychic (or is that psychotic?) library.
