There were only five when I was into them; Felicity was always my favorite w/ Addy and Molly tied for second. Actually I liked all of them except Samantha for some reason.

Fel had the best dresses :q

why not samantha? haha... when my friends and I started a fans club, where all members had to assume an American Girls Collection name, my best friend (of that time) was Samantha. Samantha's OK for me, but just OK. Maybe because she's too elegant or flamboyant or what? :) Well, I agree, Felicity is nice... she has a movie already now... have you happened to watch it?;)

They were some of the first books I read...and I read a whole set in a day :) We had to read the set of the doll we wanted before our parents would get it. I have Kirsten and my sister has Samantha. We have all the books. It's been years since I've read them as they're really basic level though. The Samantha movie looks cute but I think Felicity is awesome...haven't even heard of Julie! We don't get the catalogue anymore since moving. My youngest sister is starting to read and will probably be gobbling up the series pretty soon though. She might play with our old dolls or perhaps get her own.

For about 5 years in grade school I was part of an American Girls history club with our homeschool group. We'd take a year to study each time period while reading the series and having snacks and making things from the historical era. At the end we'd put on some sort of show. When we studied Kit (the depression) we did a Robin Hood play since she loved that. I was Friar Tuck! XD

Wow! And all that--in Dubai!!! Amazing.

I used to enjoy Kit too, hence this nickname of mine, and even though I did not have a doll as no one distributed AGCN collectibles in our place (my books were cheap buys from second-hand stores), I loved her outfit and secretly hoped I could have something like it. I found it the best of all on this basis: Apparently convenient and still modern-looking till this day; a basic in everyday attire, one of standard fitting, will never be out of place. In fact, my beginnings as a recreational "fashion designer" and dress artist can be easily traced to this.

And sure, AGCN has had its striking effects on me. I would not have become the so-called "Vintage Rocker" I am today if not for it.Though it was not the first to introduce me to the wonderful world of history, it was only through it that I learned to appreciate the subject itself more than I used to. At the height at my passion for AG I garnered an award for being the best student in our Social Studies class--schoolwide for our grade level... all because of the American Girls Collection.

Sometimes I find myself dreaming of becoming one of the AGCN writers (though I know it's virtually impossible, considering the place where I am and the future that lies before me)... as I had always aspired since I was younger... then I'd be writing about the Girls all grown up. In fact I used to do a lot of works similar in format and style to the American Girls' Collection--mostly about the Depression Era--but the only one that actually pushed through entirely was a novel that had almost nothing in common to Kit's life and ways except for the setting, some character names (still altered in some way) and individual traits. It hasn't been published, but I'm trying to improve on it, considering that it's my first (good) one and the story seems okay. The others never went any further than scribbles on intermediate leaves.

Yet up to now I still wonder what these American Girls would be upon blossoming into beautiful women, and as my good friend Becca would say, I can always improve on it. Nonetheless I believe that that each AGCN book is perfect as it is, and so far as I can I will try not to believe that it is something with commercial value.

Ah, the New Mexican girl... a vivacious Latina.
Years back we had an AGCN club and my third-grade classmate, who was an "American Boy," promised he'd get us dolls... me (the president of the club) and my best friend (who was vice president) told him that'd better be or else we'd bathe him in powder... yet no dolls came and every time the "deadline" was postponed he'd always have a ready excuse... end of the school year neared yet he still didn't have the dolls, and so he got his (literal) powder bath... up to now that we're in high school (and now I am studying at a different school!) we still have no idea when we would ever receive those collectibles ;)
