Hotel California is one of my favourite songs! I absolutely love The Eagles for that!
I also like Pink Floyd, Linkin Park, The Beatles, The Verve, The Coors (have only heard their Only When I Sleep and liked it a lot), and Jal (A Pakistani pop-music band). :)
*edit to add*
Red Hot Chilli Peppers for their song: Californication.

Although I have over 30 something ticket stubs to Grateful Dead shows..:D
I'm a blues lover....Howlin Wolf, Elmore James, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Allman Brothers...etc...
If it has that blues sound, it speaks to my soul.:yawnb:

The Eagles - Take It To The Limit
All alone at the end of the of the evening
And the bright lights have faded to blue
I was thinking ’bout a woman who might have
Loved me and I never knew
You know I’ve always been a dreamer
(spent my life running ’round)
And it’s so hard to change
(can’t seem to settle down)
But the dreams I’ve seen lately
Keep on turning out and burning out
And turning out the same
So put me on a highway
And show me a sign
And take it to the limit one more time
You can spend all your time making money
You can spend all your love making time
If it all fell to pieces tomorrow
Would you still be mine?
And when you’re looking for your freedom
(nobody seems to care)
And you can’t find the door
(can’t find it anywhere)
When there’s nothing to believe in
Still you’re coming back, you’re running back
You’re coming back for more
So put me on a highway
And show me a sign
And take it to the limit one more time
Take it to the limit
Take it to the limit
Take it to the limit one more time
Very good band!

I am going to make some people mad here but I am one of those people who doesn't get Hotel California....
I've heard it many times and I don't get it. What's so great about it? Play Stairway to Heaven for me instead. Hotel California is just as annoying as American Pie by Don McLean.
Someone tell, why are the Eagles so great?

I've never understood Hotel California either, nor do I nunderstand Stairway To Heaven. I'll take Jumping Jack Flash over them all. ;)

Not sure Shalot. I just saw "The Big Lebowski", and there is a scene in which The Dude wants the cabbie to change the music on the radio because he can't stand the Eagles. The cabbie driver violently pulls over and kicks The Dude out of his "peaceful" cabbie.

Really? Jumping Jack Flash? The Stones are amazing no doubt about that (I spent big bucks to go to one of their concerts and they are before my time and they were old men when I saw them) but Jumpin Jack Flash is not the Stones song that comes to mind when I think of their best song. Symphony for the Devil maybe, or perhaps Paint It Black. In fact, the Rolling Stones deserve their own thread.
As far as Stairway to Heaven -- it is great. It may take a while to get used to for some, but it is one of those songs I can't listen to anymore because I've played it so many times.

Heh, American Pie and Hotel California . . . like some other "smart" kids in the US in semi-recent years, I happened to spend a few weeks during one summer at a camp for nerds just like me. My experience there involved both American Pie and Hotel California. I love both of those songs, but not really because of anything in the songs themselves - it's just what I associate with them. So I can't be of any help. My vision is completely colored by that. :)

Well, I never cared for Hotel California myself, it just drones on and on and on...but no one band can write songs that everybody will like all the time. :)
