The old barn owl sits up in the tree
Scanning the world below,
He waits and watches without a sound
Knowing his prey will show.

Down in the hollow a small mouse stirs
It's time to go and eat,
Out in the field where the corn is ripe
Ears that are yellow and sweet.

Back in thier nest the young owls wait
For food that's soon to come,
The largest chick will be fed the most
The smallest may get some.

Out in the field the mouse will move fast
Knowing that danger is near,
There's young to feed back in the hollow
Their foe they will not hear.

This night some babies will not get fed,
One family will loose out.
Either the owl or the mouse will fail
Of that there is no doubt.

The ways of nature can be so cruel
For some to live some die.
This is the way it has got to be,
It's pointless to ask why.

Hi Gillian

I really enjoy reading your words and this paints a real yet sad picture of nature. I adore watching nature shows and your words were very well written.

Take care.........Sue
