I read the novel "across the barricades" by Joan Lingard. Now I'd like characterize the caracters Mrs McConkey, Mr Mullet, Mrs Mullet and Linda Mullet.
Mrs McConkey:
Mrs McConkey is a Protestant who ran a small shop in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Apparently she had a big bosom, because Sadie would joke about it. At her store, which sold everything from sweets to sticking plaster to food, you can even pay one day later. Mrs McConkey lost her life in a bomb attack on her shop. She was a harmless human being in Sadie's eyes. According to Sadie, the worst thing Mrs McConkey ever did was to box the ears of cheeky children.
Mr Mullet:
Bill Mullet is a Protestant who lives in Belfast, Northern Ireland. He and his wife have a daughter named Linda. He is 46 and a member of the Lodge. He isn’t interested in his wife's treachery, but would rather read the greyhound racing results in the newspaper. He thinks that Tommy is a good Protestant, even though he doesn’t belong to the Lodge, and is just the right boy for his daughter Linda.
In the argument in chapter nine, we learn the most about about Mr Mullet’s character. In fact, he is against the Catholics in this case, especially Kevin. Mr. Mullet is the type who provokes other people. For example, he told Kevin that he was a coward or insults him by calling him a Mick. Mr. Mullet is narrow-minded and sees only one side of things. The fact that Kevin is Catholic makes him nervous.
Mrs Mullet:
Mr Mullet is a Protestant with her daughter Linda and her husband in the same street with the family Jackson. She married very young. She is someone who pays attention on his outfit.
She frequently doesn’t have money because of the expensive clothes she buys for herself and Linda therefore is rely on the helps of neighbours in the street. Mrs Mullet is a gossip and loves to trade the latest news. It seems like Mrs. Mullet has a good friendship to Mrs. McConkey.
Linda Mullet:
The person to be characterized is one of the main characters Linda Mullet. She is a Protestant and is in love with Tommy the brother of Sadie who is certainly a Protestant, too. She is a typist in an office. She is a gossip like her mother. She tells to Tommy’s parents that Sadie, sister of Tommy saw Sadie with a Catholic boy, although she could loose Tommy. And she maybe had told her mother, too that Sadie is keeping company with a Catholic boy. But Tommy said her clearly if she does tell anything she will not see him again!
Could anyone correct my text, please?
Thanks in anticipation
