Well, there are plenty of things you could relate to it - the interception of all e mail and internet pages which contain keywords, the increasing use of surveillance cameras in public places, vastly improved forensic technology & DNA matching, propaganda promulgated by multiple means - tv/internet/radio/papers, airport security, x-rays of baggage...
