Hi everyone

I am very glad :D to be a new member of this lovely forum.

I'm a student in The Faculty of English Department, University of Damascus.

I was reading the short story "Two Gallants",by James Joyce, and I found the word "ecod" in the line ("Ecod ! Corley, you know how to take them" said Lenehan) I looked it up in all of my dictionaries and even in the online dictionaries but, nothing I found  ....

Anyone could please please help me with the meaning of the word "ecod" and I'll be really grateful ?

Bye for now :p

I havn't read the story, or any Joyce for that matter *slaps self for not having read any Joyce*, but I'll venture a guess. Could it be merely an explaination of surprise? I don't think you would find "jeeperz" or "holy bagolly" in a dictionary either. In Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream one of the mechanicals says "B'yar Larkin!" I figure thats the same thing.
