Google Harold Bloom and Romanticism to find a book of essays that he put together of his favorite essayists; naturally, including one of his essays.

Dear rony: Had the same problem, in spades, at Catholic University and at Temple University. It is one of the curses/hurdles that literature studends must endure. The only way to ammeliorate the situation is to find the very best critics like those at the nytimes book review (every Sun.) or the Paris Review or just do some searches on critics and what they tend to specialize in, if anything. In my view, critics of non-fiction are easier to deal with and do better work for obvious reasons. Then again alot of so-called fiction is really non-fiction in some disguise or autobiographical to some degree. Sci-fi does not apply. quasimodo1

James Wood has covered a fair whack of Romantic literature. He's difficult to find boring.
