we all have those certain songs that when you hear them it takes you back to some memory (good or Bad) ex. "I will survive" at a party (haha faye) anyways here's the question
if your life had a soundtrack what bands and songs would it consist of?

ok, this is embarassing. BUT,
blink 182, all the small things, adams song, I miss you. there are reasons behind these, I prolly won't go into
evercleer, wonderful.
RHCP [of course]. can't stop, I could die for you, under the bridge, dozed. once again, karoake. :D
nirvana, lithium, heart shaped box.
yoko kanno, blue.
smashing pumpkins, for martha
goo goo dolls, iris, slide, acoustic #3
'I will survive' [but of course] there were a couple of other karaoke songs, just can't remember at the mo. mostly aretha franklin, I think (???)
One day I'll explain why. Most correspond to dumbass experiences, amusing days, etc. Stupid karaoke moments, and lots of them!

I have more... will have to add them later.
Depeche Mode - Ultra ... the true story of my 16 years of age
U2 - The Unforgettable Fire - haven't listened to it in ages, but it was soundtrack to my early adolescence crisis :D
The Cure - Pornography... or the recent tragedies of breakup and neverending adolescence.
All i could think about for now... But there's so much more... mainly sentences though... I just went on albums to sum up a bit!

Lots of old style blues and jazz like BB King,
Mozart's Death Requiem,
Let's Do the Time Warp, from Rocky Horror,
Anything by The Beatles,
Santan's Pilgrims, surfer music,
Buena Vista Social Club, cuban music,
That's all I can think of at the moment.

Memories eh? Hmm...
Matchbox 20 - Push
Korn - Blind
Slipknot - Wait and Bleed
Cannibal Corpse - Hammer Smashed Face
Between the Buried and Me - Shevanel Cut a Flip
Those capture the memories I have of music in my life. Each band represents a new movement I have had over the years into a new genre of music. Neat to look back on..heh.

well, let's see....
Bryan Adams - Everything I do....
(the song we played at my wedding. to this day, still makes me laugh hysterically!)
Cake - I Will Survive
(i know, an arethra franklin cover, but it was the cake version that i played on the day of my divorce!!)
Kingdom Come - What love can be (I'm not telling that story, but GREAT song!!!)
anything by Def Lepard, that tells my age...
and anything by the Philosopher Kings
OH, and....
i wanna be your cowboy (cant remember who did it)
tarzan boy - Baltimora
building a religion - Cake
cry to me - Solomon Burke
im sure there will be more, as the longer we live, the longer our soundtrack gets.
`I want to be a cowboy' by KidRock? Is that what you meant? Good choice of divorce-day song!

no, not by kid rock....
it goes something like this:
*starts humming*
riding on the range
ive got my hat on
ive got my boots dusty
ive got my saddle on my horse
he going......(insert unintelligible noise here)...
of course
i wanna be a cowboy, and you can be my cowgirl
(repeat thrice)
and so on. its an older song, maybe 80's ish?
i'll see if i can figure out who does it....

YAY i found it...its called "I wanna be a cowboy" by Boys Dont Cry":
Riding on the range,
I've got my hat - on,
I've got my boots - dusty.
I've got my saddle
On my horse.
He's called....T-t-t-t-t-trigger
Of course.
I wanna be a cowboy
and you can be my cowgirl
I wanna be a cowboy
and you can be my cowgirl
I wanna be a cowboy
(woman's voice)
Riding on the chuck wagon,
Following my man.
His name is Ted,
Can you believe that?
Camping on the prairie
Plays havoc with my hair.
Makes me feel quite dirty,
Though we all do sometimes
I wanna be a cowboy
and you can be my cowgirl
I wanna be a cowboy
and you can be my cowgirl
I wanna be a cowboy
Looking like a hero,
Six-gun at my side,
Chewing my tobacco.
Out on the horizon,
I see a puff of smoke.
Indians on the warpath,
(Indian voice) White man speak-em with forked tongue.
Or not.
I wanna be a cowboy
and you can be my cowgirl
I wanna be a cowboy
My name is Ted,
And one day I'll be dead yo yo
its a very cool song, but makes me feel ANCIENT!!

vh1 did a thing on that recently; "boys don't cry" (i guess it was them) sued kid rock for using their lyrics. it was settled out of court.

Oh, wow... just the really important ones I can remember.
--Definitely, definitely "Blue" - Yoko Kanno (go, faye faye -- I'm gonna start boohoohoo-ing all over again!)
--"Closer" - NIN (don't ask :p) Also, "The Perfect Drug"
--Anything from Rocky Horror
--"Creep" Radiohead, "Killing in the Name Of" Rage, "No Excuses" Alice in Chains, "Evenflow" Pearl Jam (older bro made a mix tape for me off the radio when I was in 3rd grade -- listened to it constantly and those songs still somehow all have a similar sound to me, like I'm still hearing them in 3rd grade.)
--"Angry Johnny" - Poe
--"Soupy Sidewalk" Imaginary Johnny, "Scarecrow" +/-, "Bluebird of Happiness" Mojave 3, "Static on the High Desert" Oranger, "Outer Inner & Secret" Do Make See Think (long story, and recent, but already important)
--"Natural One" - Folk Implosion
--"Human Behavior" - Bjork
--One particular Prelude by Chopin, but I can't remember what it's called
--Anything off Mer de Noms (A Perfect Circle)
--Pachelbel's Canon in D
--"It's all too much/treat yourself with kindness/trees in the city" -- Clearlake
Oh! Almost forgot "Singin' in the Rain" - as sung by Malcolm McDowell, of course :D
atiguhya padma
04-14-2004, 12:23 PM
Emily,
Is that Clearlake, as in the band that comes from Brighton in the UK? I thought they were pretty much obscure for the UK, so it's surprising to hear someone from the States talk about them.

Yep. My second favorite band. :D They play them every once in a blue moon on a couple of the streaming internet radio stations. They're not released in the US though, I had to get an import through Amazon. God, they're good. Yea. I hope mainstream radio never hears their name LOL.

Em,
I've only got the first album. Do you know anything from the latest? Is it worth getting?
emily655321
04-14-2004, 12:46 PM
AP--
I only have the second one. And **Y E S** It's like ...much tighter and more musically mature than the songs I've heard from Lido, but just as poetic and intelligent and gritty and on and on and on. Great stuff.

Does anybody know this song, it was fairly popular in the mid 90's, it kinda was along the lines of Front 242 (but not them) and it had clips from the running man movie?
Some of the words were:
"Who loves you? and who do you love?"
dadadadadadada
(me humming)
"Time to start running"

That sounded really familiar. I googled it, and I got mostly Santana, but the one that rang a bell for me was "Temple of Dreams" by Messiah. I couldn't find a sample that would run on RealPlayer or Quicktime though, so I couldn't check it out. Is that the one you're thinking of?
papayahed
04-16-2004, 04:20 PM
Thanks emily. That's it!!! I've been looking for that forever.
I found a link:

Cool, glad I could help. (Tried that site already, btw, but thanks anyway. :))

04-16-2004, 04:32 PM
Really? I was able to play it on realplayer.
emily655321
04-16-2004, 04:40 PM
*sheepish* Before we got RealPlayer we always got this message that came up saying "choose an application to open the file," so being oblivious as I was, I chose "GraphicConverter" from the list, thinking if that didn't work I could try another. Now everytime I download a file it tries to open it in the GraphicConverter, which of course doesn't work. LOL.

I've gotta add to my list the songs of Areatha Franklin.
IWilKikU
04-21-2004, 02:38 AM
Em, right click your audiofile, select open with, check the box that says "Always use this application to open this type of file?" or somthing like that. Problem solved.
Realplayer... eww. Get Winamp!
emily655321
04-21-2004, 04:28 AM
Cool, thanks Kik, I'll keep my eyes peeled for that next time that happens. May not be the same on my comp, though, for the same reason I can't get Winamp (or make a right click, for that matter) -- got a Mac. Best in the world by far, always had one, but Gates will have that monopoly of his over the industry, so very little compatible software is made for 'em. Player's the most widely used... thingy... I can get.
Sancho
04-21-2004, 11:54 AM
Em, I did the exact same thing except I used MS Word. So now whenever I download "this type of file" I get about a 400 page word document with nothing but gibberish.
emily655321
04-21-2004, 03:02 PM
LOL oh no. Well, may I say, I'm grateful for your misfortune -- at least I don't feel so dumb now. :D I was trying to download a video clip, and Quicktime was greyed out in the list. I figured, "well, videos have graphics in them..." *shakes head*

Whenever I meet people for the first time they always start singing that song Layla because that's nearly the same as my name. I have grown to hate it.
emily655321
04-22-2004, 06:41 PM
LOL. I hate that song anyway.
Anyone have the Sufjan Stevens CD? Is it good? Should I get it? I've only heard two songs. Most Glorious and nice hippie stuff.
Sancho
04-22-2004, 06:48 PM
Never really cared for Clapton period. Too many people die around him.
Sujan Stevens. I'll have to look into it. I dig hippie music.
Truckin' like the do-da man...
emily655321
04-22-2004, 06:51 PM
LOL. Sufjan. Sufjan with a "fff" btw. You said you like the mandolin, remember?
Sancho
04-22-2004, 07:02 PM
Whoops, there’s that tragic typing impediment raring its ugly head again.
Love the mandolin. I’ve got an old gourd mandolin that I bought in Mexico years ago. If I could only tremolo. Shamefully I find the fret board on the mandolin too small.
emily655321
04-22-2004, 07:04 PM
My dad has one, but it got a crack in it years ago and now it hangs on the wall. That thing's crazy -- I haven't been able to make a chord on it since elementary school. Crazy tiny.

Does anyone have "Serart"? Its Serj Tankien's (SOAD) sideproject with Arto (the guy who did the bit at the end of Toxicity). I've heard samples on their website, but I don't have the album yet.
emily655321
04-24-2004, 01:31 AM
I was gonna say "yeah," but I went and checked and it was just some vocals he did on a Starlit Eyes track I got handed at a show a couple years ago. I actually hadn't heard of a side project. I'll have to check it out.
EDIT: I don't know if you meant you couldn't find it or just hadn't decided to get it, but anyway... if it's the former, they have it at Amazon. Gave the available demos a listen, and personally... hm... not at all my style. But hey, here ya go: <http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000093FJO/104-5579373-2499100?v=glance>
IWilKikU
04-24-2004, 08:03 PM
Starlit Eyes was a track that he did with the members of Snot on a tribute to Lynn Strait (lead singer of Snot who died in a car accident) called Strait Up. Its probably my least favorite song that Serj appears in.
emily655321
04-25-2004, 04:39 AM
Oh (hehe) looked at the name instead of the band by mistake. As you can tell, I never got into it either, but it's still hanging around gathering dust for some reason. Yeah, definitely sucks pretty bad, from what I remember.
IWilKikU
04-25-2004, 08:57 PM
Yeah, but thats not Serj's fault. He was singing a crappy song written by a crappy band who likes to do things, well crappilly.
