I need some answers please from anyone that can help.
All i need is some guidance, not an essay.

I need to analyse three paragraphs in this novel and show how Heathcliff's desire for power and revenge leads him to manipulate the three children of the second generation, Linton, Cathy and Hareton.

These 3 paragraphs are:

Yes, Nell,' he added, when they had departed, 'my son is prospective owner of your place, and I should not wish him to die till I was certain of being his successor. Besides, he's MINE, and I want the triumph of seeing MY descendant fairly lord of their estates; my child hiring their children to till their fathers' lands for wages. That is the sole consideration which can make me endure the whelp: I despise him for himself, and hate him for the memories he revives!

Don't you think Hindley would be proud
of his son, if he could see him? almost as proud as I am of mine.
But there's this difference; one is gold put to the use of paving-
stones, and the other is tin polished to ape a service of silver.
MINE has nothing valuable about it; yet I shall have the merit of
making it go as far as such poor stuff can go. HIS had first-rate
qualities, and they are lost: rendered worse than unavailing. I
have nothing to regret; he would have more than any but I are aware
of. And the best of it is, Hareton is damnably fond of me! You'll
own that I've outmatched Hindley there. If the dead villain could
rise from his grave to abuse me for his offspring's wrongs, I
should have the fun of seeing the said offspring fight him back
again, indignant that he should dare to rail at the one friend he
has in the world!'

'I swear Linton is dying,' repeated Heathcliff, looking hard at me. 'And grief and disappointment are hastening his death. Nelly, if you won't let her go, you can walk over yourself. But I shall not return till this time next week; and I think your master himself would scarcely object to her visiting her cousin.'
'Come in,' said I, taking Cathy by the arm and half forcing her to re-enter; for she lingered, viewing with troubled eyes the features of the speaker, too stern to express his inward deceit.
He pushed his horse close, and, bending down, observed - 'Miss Catherine, I'll own to you that I have little patience with Linton; and Hareton and Joseph have less. I'll own that he's with a harsh set. He pines for kindness, as well as love; and a kind word from you would be his best medicine. Don't mind Mrs. Dean's cruel cautions; but be generous, and contrive to see him. He dreams of you day and night, and cannot be persuaded that you don't hate him, since you neither write nor call.'

Can Anyone so much as just guide me to the correct answer?
Thanks

No problem! :)

The first passage is to do with Heathcliff setting up the marriage between Linton and Catherine so that he, Heathcliff, will have means to Edgar's estate and triumph over him. In persuading the two to marry all that is Cathy's will be her husband's, and it is clear Linton will soon die anyway, so the inheritance will be under Heathcliff's power. The fact that Heathcliff despises Linton backs this up since it proves he uses him for his financial benefits.

The second demonstrates how Heathcliff oppresses and degrades Hareton, despite caring for the boy almost as a son, so that he might get his own revenge on Hindley, Hareton's father, for all the ill-treatment he bestowed on Heathcliff. Despite all this Hareton maintains an irrational but strong love for Heathcliff, which Heathcliff takes advantage of even more.

Finally, the third paragraph shows how Heathcliff manipulates Cathy by making her worry about Linton's treatment and illness in order to draw them closer in preparation for their marriage. He almost forces her to make her bond with Linton stronger so that eventually they will marry and Heathcliff will benefit from Thrushcross Grange Estate and gain his revenge on Edgar Linton for stealing Catherine away from him years before.

Hope that helps! Good luck! :)
