I heard a recitation by a high school drama student once and I did not catch the source of the passage he was reciting.
It went something like, ...on the battle field I held a mortally wounded man in my arms and he asked, "why?", but he was not asking why am I dying but, "why have I lived?"
If someone could tell me from what literary work this came I would appreciate it very much.
Thanks in advance
