Last one from me for awhile. This is a fun one!

Yes/No questions only, please. :D

A man stops his car in front of a house and pays the owner of the house $50.

Moira

Did he ran something over with his car? Something that belonged to the house owner?
Does he buy something from him?
Did he see the owner of the house before that?

Did he know the home owner?
Were they related?

Hi, this is my first posting in this forum. I've been following the "Stories with holes" for a while and I had to participate, I love it.

My questions:

Has he known the owner for a long time?
Was that the $50 for a bet they had?
Is the sex of the owner relevant?
Is the owner a man?
Does the fact that man drove there has to do anything with the $50?

Did the homowner give anything to the driver?
Was anybody else in the car?

Did he owe the money to the owner?

Is the ower black mailing the driver?
Is there even a reason for the man giving the owner the money?
Or was it just to be nice to the owner?
Is the owner poor?
Or is the owner rich?

A man drove his car? That really doesn't tell me if there were passengers..

Was he alone in the car when he stopped to give the money to the owner of the house?
Did he get something in return for the money?

I was not assuming. I just asked. Was the man alone in the car?
If it's not relevant ....... tell us and we will move on.

So he owns him money.....
Does he pay him for a service?
Did he get/ will get something in return?

Does the man go inside the house?
Does he do anything important in there?
Was the man pushing his car?
Was there something wrong with the car?
Was there someone other than the man in the car?

Was the man a tenant in any of the owner's houses? The house owner could have some other houses as well....so the tenant of any house might have come to pay him the rent? Was it so?

Here is a summary:

Positive Statements
1. He knew the owner of the house before.
2. He owed the money to the owner.
3. There is nothing wrong with the car, but the man is pushing it.

Negative Statements
1. They do not have a bet.
2. He does not pay him for a service; he does not get anything in return.
3. He did not run over anything that belonged to the owner of the house.
4. The owner is not blackmailing him.
5. No one was in the car.

My questions:

1. Did he destroy something that belonged to the owner?
2. Did he take something that belonged to the owner?
3. Does the fact that man pushed the car there have to do anything with the $50?
4. Did the guy run out of gas?
5. Was the owner expecting the guy to drop by?
6. Was the owner happy to see the guy?

Yes, yes, yes. I want a hint!

scotpgot
05-08-2007, 03:59 PM
Ok: The house is near a railroad.

Also, I'm really hoping this works internationally (not a hint so much, I suppose, as a "I hope I don't piss everybody off with the solution.") :D

Hyacinth42

Was there a toll to go across the railroad?
Was the man paying the toll?

Was there a toll to go across the railroad?
Was the man paying the toll?
No. The man gave the money to the owner of the house. (But it's entirely possible the the owner of the house ALSO owns the railroad, but not really relevant).

Ok, perhaps a few more clues:

1) The house is GREEN
2) The car is as big as the house (in size)

Moira
05-16-2007, 05:16 AM
Is the reason for paying money related to the railroad?

Was the man a giant? (how could he push a car big as a house otherwise)

Bah .... more hints?:)

Moira
05-16-2007, 05:17 AM
Or ...... is the house smaller than usual ones?

Is this a real/ possible situation?
Should we look for a fantastic explanation (such as in fairy tales)?

Let's see . . .
No, not related to the railroad. The railroad is a clue to setting.

The man was not a giant.

Yes, the house is MUCH smaller than usual ones (as is the car).

This IS a real/possible situation (i.e. not fantasy). In fact, it would not be at all unusual for you or I to be in the exact same situation.

More clues? (Any more and I'll be pretty close to giving it away.)

Is there a reason for the man pushing his car instead of driving it?
Is it related to the money?
Is the setting relevant?

Are they kids playing with toys?????????????????????????????????

Yes.

Are they kids playing with toys?????????????????????????????????

YES (but not necessarily kids, or "toys" exactly. So actually, no. ;)). Veeeery close. But what about the $50?

Moira
05-20-2007, 07:48 AM
Now i am more confused than before:).

So .....

Are they playing?
Is it a situation that can apply to both kids and adults?
The car and the house are toys or not?

scotpgot
05-20-2007, 06:22 PM
They're playing.
Can apply to both kids and adults, yes.
The car and the house are pieces in a larger game.

Moira
05-21-2007, 12:38 AM
In this particular situation are they adults? Or is it relevant wether they are adults or kids?

So they are playing near a railway, one man is pushing a car smaller than normal cars. He cannot drive it because he is bigger than the car. He stops in front of a house (the house is smaller than usual houses) and gives the owner of the house 50 dollars.

Are they on some kind of playing ground with miniature cars, houses, trains, etc?

AdoreroDio
05-21-2007, 12:53 AM
Ok...first time in this game but let me see here if I can give a solution-

Is the person is in a store and sees a model village with the house and railroad and car- pushes the car in front of the house, decides he wants to buy the set and pays the owner of the store- therefore the house as well- $50 for it....?

or am I completely off?

Moira
05-21-2007, 01:05 AM
No, actually he does not buy anything nor does he get something in return for the money ........

AdoreroDio
05-21-2007, 01:09 AM
Oh yah, I realized that a few minutes after posting it...my bad.

Is it extremely relevant that the house is green? Or is it only slightly relevant?

Moira
05-21-2007, 01:19 AM
I don't really know that. We are waiting for scotp......

But what i know is that they are playing so we need to find the reason for the money..........

AdoreroDio

An update on what we know-

Positive Statements
1. He knew the owner of the house before.
2. He owed the money to the owner.
3. There is nothing wrong with the car, but the man is pushing it.
4.The house is near a railroad.
5. The man gave the money to the owner of the house and was not paying a toll to get across the railroad.
6. The house is GREEN
7. The car is as big as the house (in size)
8. The railroad is a clue to setting.
9. the house is MUCH smaller than usual ones (as is the car).
10.This IS a real/possible situation
11. The setting is relevant
12. They are people (not necessarily kids) playing with something (not necessarily toys)
13. Can apply to both kids and adults, yes.
14. The car and the house are pieces in a larger game.

Negative Statements
1. They do not have a bet.
2. He does not pay him for a service; he does not get anything in return.
3. He did not run over anything that belonged to the owner of the house.
4. The owner is not blackmailing him.
5. No one was in the car.
6. He didn't destroy or take something that belonged to the owner.
7. The fact that man pushed the car there has nothing to do with the $50.
8. The guy didn't run out of gas.
9. The owner wasn't expecting the guy to drop by.
10. He wasn't giving the owner change.
11. The owner of the house doesn't sell anything.
12. It's not related to the railroad.
13. The man was not a giant.
14. There is a reason, other than money, for the man to be pushing the car not driving

Moira
05-21-2007, 01:40 AM
Very good.

So we pretty much established the setting, the fact that they are playing..... We need the reason for the money.

Is the money part of the game they are playing?
Does the 'owner' of the house do someting with the money?

AdoreroDio
05-21-2007, 01:46 AM
Is it real money?
Is it play money?
Is the money counterfeit?
Was the owner expecting the money earlier?
Was the guy planning on paying the owner before he pushed the car in front of the owner's house?

Hi everyone! Long time since my last visit to the forum!!!

I love this kind of games ^_^

Are they playing Monopoly?? The owner of the car has fallen in a square (near the train station?) that belongs to another player, and the fee is 50$..
Is that so??

Moira
05-21-2007, 04:25 AM
Wow, u're good. You might have just solved the problem.
We'll just have to wait and see:).

scotpgot

YES!!!!

So was this unfair from the start? Do you international folks have a reasonable knowledge of Monopoly?

Moira

Yes we do ............
It was really good, i loved it:).

That's good, I'm glad. Seemed like interest kind of waned on this one for whatever reason. I'm glad it wasn't because of some weird cultural divide. :)

I think that here in Spain we have two different boards:
one with the streets of Barcelona (that's my city, and that's the board I've always played with ^^), and another with the streets of Madrid. I'm not quite sure if Valencia, Bilbao or Sevilla have their own, too.. :?

I liked this story with a hole ^^

Can I start the next one?

scotpgot
05-21-2007, 10:38 PM
Yeah, we have all kinds of different versions in the States, too. But they all have green houses, 4 railroads, etc.

AdoreroDio, I contacted Scheherazade(sp?) via PM just to let her know I was starting them. Once i posted, she stickied. I'm sure everyone would be thrilled to have another one!

AdoreroDio
05-22-2007, 01:07 AM
Should I start a new thread or continue with this thread to save space?

Moira
05-22-2007, 01:59 AM
We should have another story, it's fun.
Go for it.......

scotpgot
05-22-2007, 11:24 AM
TOTALLY! Go for it!

If it were me, I'd start another thread with the title "Stories with Holes - 13" and PM Scher just to let her know she might want to sticky it (which I'm sure she will). I think it might be easier to keep each riddle separate (as opposed to having more than one riddle in a thread).

AdoreroDio
05-22-2007, 08:41 PM
ok, I've started it.
