I know this is a strange request but i had to ask you all a favour.
I need to come up with a unique name form my dream house.
My mother has collected these tokens for me to enter a compation to win an apartment al i have to do is come up with what i would call my dream house. I'm a bit stuck as all i can think of is the obvious ones that i'm sure many people will submit. So if you could help me come up with a name i would really appriciate it!
Hope you can all help me!
Niamh

Idyllic Refuge?
The Angels' Lair?
Homeric Idyl? (this is maybe too farfetched a wordplay ;))
Hasslelessness (I like the way this one sounds, slithering as a serpent :p)
My Eden?

Most of what I can come up with involves 'heaven', maybe I'm not that creative as to come up with a suitable name. Good luck with that, Niahm! :)

Heorot is an obvious one, but any of Tolkein's variations thereon would do nicely as well.

Betsy...or for a boy house you could try Fred.

Niamh, this website might give you some ideas. (better than Betsy, at any rate.)

what about Pemberly? (I like this thread. I've always wanted to name a house since I read Anne of Green Gables.) Speaking of which, what about Green Gables?

BTW, I LOVED DunSi.

I liked this book as a young child (I think around 9) as well :). My mother tried to restrict me from reading it because it was too 'effeminate' for me...but she gladly let me read Heidi!....irony :\

How about:

Fenway Beach
Martell Capitol
Case de Grande

(Sorry if these choices appear ridiculous... It's all I could think up).

I know it's not unique but sometimes common names are the best ones! :D

Someone said Green Gables, I second this truly if not Lothlorien! :p

DunSi is lovely.

I'm reading a lovely book on fairies (I'm assuming you like them) and found another name. How about faerie ring? Sort of to say that when people enter into your house, they're hard pressed to leave.

Niamh
05-04-2007, 02:47 PM
If i go with DunSi Na Ri it means that my home will be called 'The fort of the Fairy King'.

Or DunSi na Banrion which is fort of the faiy queen.
fairy ring in irish is 'fainne si.

What an interesting competition ! Those Irish ! :p

Mhm, I was wondering how the Irish equivalent to Walhalla and Elysium is called; maybe that would do ?

But don't make the name too Irish, otherwise I won't be able to pronounce it when asking for directions on my next visit ! ;)

You're thinking of the stone of scone, Scottish coronations took place atop it. Then Edward stole it so we couldnt crown anyone and took it to london where it sat under the throne, it was brought back to Scotland fairly recently (dont remember exact date).

Yes, I think he must have been living from 12-something to 13-something, which was before the Tudors (14-something). I remember bits about Edward I, his going on a crusade and building part of the tower. Plus, he stars in Braveheart ;).

Tiptop! I love this thread! Have you seen the book "Faeries" by Alan Lee and Brian Froud? It's got a lot of adorable fairies and fairy facts in it.

Niamh
05-10-2007, 04:58 PM
all you have to do is look at my avatar to know i'm a brian froud fan!
I have a lot of his book.
Faeries
good faeries bad faeries
the faery oracle
Goblins
and the goblins of labyrinth
I also have loads of other books on fairies including an encyclopedia.
This is probably the reason why i'm going with a fairy based house name!
