Hi,
Im writing an essay on these two political poems by female poets, and want to focus on why Barbauld's poem got a horrendous public reception while Smith's didn't?
Any ideas?
I am thinking along the lines of the context they are both written, and how the poetic persona affects the reading of the two poems i.e. Barbauld is distant from the poem, whereas Smith employs a 1st person narration to comment on her own personal plight as an exile.
Any advice would be really grateful thanks :)
