Hello,

I wonder if any of you are writing fantasy books about dragons? I do, and I think it will be around 300 pages when I am done. I happen to like dragons, what about you? ;)

Yes, I do love dragons, too, and I happen to be writing a novel (hopefully a trilogy) that will have one dragon in it. I've decided on having only one dragon (and a minor character, at that) at this point because I think the bookshelves of the Sci-fi/Fantasy sections of booksellers and libraries are bowing under the weight of books that contain mostly unoriginal dragon storylines. IMHO, I think for any new dragon story to be popular, the author needs to create an original intrigue to them.

Good luck! :thumbs_up

It is nice to know that there are other dragonlovers around. My favorite dragon (the one in my story) is a blue female. My second favorite is a green male. I have liked dragons since I was seven. When I am bored I like to fantasize about them. If you like dragons I suppose you have read Eragon? That is a good book. :thumbs_up

Yes, I have read Eragon, and I thought it was a very good effort by someone so young (I believe he was 19 when it was published). It gave me hope that an old woman like me could actually achieve a similar outcome with my attempts at writing. :p

I read Eragon and though I found too many parallels between it and LOTR to absolutely fall in love with it, I did enjoy it very much.

I still have time for it, I am only eleven years old. ;)

Really? Which parallels are you thinking about? And what about parallels with The Hobbit? Have you seen the film Eragon too? I have, and it is my favourite film. :)

Dragons are cool.

I was thinking 'bout writing about 'em. But...I don't know where to start. So, right now, I'll just read about dragons.

I'm not sure about parallels between Eragon and the Hobbit, but the parallels between LOTR and Eragon are mostly in the people. Like so:
Urgals - Orks
Kull - Uruk-hai
Durza - Saruman
Arya - Legolas
Eragon - Frodo or Aragorn (couldn't really decide which)
Brom - sorta Gandalf-ish
Murtagh - Boromir

And I daresay others I've forgotten about. But I liked Eragon because it held my interest - usually fantasy doesn't. Except for LOTR (I love LOTR) and the Chronicles of Narnia and the Wizard of Oz and Peter Pan. (though the last two are children's literature, I love them dearly.)

I have read Narnia too, but I was not so interested by Peter Pan. Eragon is still my favorite book.

I love dragons, and writting about them is such fun. My current dragon book, however, is in hiatus, until I finish the faerie book at least :D

Nice to see that someone is sharing my interests :)
Currently I'm stuck with my story, I'm not getting anywhere because I need to come up with an idea. Except for that little detail, I only have the editing left then I'm finally done with my story.
I'm very exited :)

I posted a short story called 'Smiling Dragons' in the Short Story Sharing forum recently if you want to have a read (and critique!) It is my first attempt at fantasy/mythology style writing. Dragons appeal to all age groups, I think and depending on what you write so can the tale. It seems to me that dragon tales are especially popular now.

Can you be more specific in the way you are stuck?

dragons can be quite cool, but in all honesty CHRISTOPHER PAOLINI made them stale and horrible. i hate his dragons and I hate his books.
nothing more than tidy cliches and ripoffs!

There is a copy of Eragon in my toilet. Everytime I go in there and randomly open it somewhere, i can't get an edge on the text. Sorry folks I don't like him either....

Well, at a closer look on other Fantasy books I have seen that Christopher Paolini has stolen many ideas. And it is quite clear that he has borrowed very many ideas. The story about Eragon itself is good but it is almost to much of a apery.
I suppose that my book is much like other Fantasy books that I have been inspired by. But almost all Fantasy books is like Lord Of The Rings or Narnia, they were the first Fantasy books overall.

The problem with my book at the moment is that I need to come up with an artefact. Size doesn't really matter.

I'm gonna check out "Smiling Dragons", Delta40, sounds fun.

As any Welshman will tell you, the dragon is a wonderful creature, without which Wales would be a poorer place. There are many mountains in Wales, Yr Wyddfa, Craig Goch, Moel Siabod and so on, and they are often wreathed in mist. this is not a meteorological phenomonen, but is as a direct result of the dragons playing . They all Huff and Puff lots, creating a lot of breath mist, and then they can play without any of us humans seeing them. All Welsh dragons have names starting in the letter D, such as Dai, Dewi, Dylan, Dafydd, but they are very shy. All Pure Dragons speak Welsh as their first language, although many can manage a few words of English, when they think that nobody is listening.

You would? Thank you for the enthusiasm!
I think it will be done soon... but it is in Swedish so you'll have to wait for a translation.
Do you do any writing yourself?

Dragons are the best!

Cool. Wales is laying in Big Britain, right? It is really the right environment for pure dragons. I need to have a place in my book that looks like Wales (my book take place in an other world).
How do you say dragon in Welsh?
