It's a good idea, but like Kik said, I probably wouldn't check it. The current way is fine IMO.

I dont think a new section is really required, just start an introduction thread in general chat.

alot of newbs start their own intro threads anyways.

True but they are all over the place and newmembers leave feeling unwelcomed because nobody said hi.
