Just found this forum and the games section. I LOVE these things.

You know the rules: Figure out the story by asking yes/no questions. Have at it!

A man gets in an elevator and pushes the button for the lobby. When the elevator stops, he knows his wife has died.

Was his wife with him in the elevator?

Did he know that his wife was about to die?

Was her death accidental/murder?

Is he happy/sad about his wife's death?

Is the building in which the elevator is located relevant?

If so, were both the man and his wife in that same building at that time?

Has the man had a mobile phone with him in the elevator?

If so, has somebody called him while he was in the elevator?

Is he in any way responsible for his wife's death?

Was the building a hotel? A hospital?

Was the man meeting his wife in the lobby? Someplace else in the building?

Did he find out that his wife was dead by seeing her dead?

Was he alone in the elevator?

If not, did he talk to whomever was there with him?

I fear this might be too easy for the geniuses on this site . . .

What a ghoulish way of informing someone that his loved one had died:

"How's my wife? Is she okay? Can I see her?"

"Uh, sure. Step right this way."

Was his wife a patient at the hospital?
A nurse or doctor?
Did an accident occur on the elevator?
Was anybody waiting for him at the lobby?

Thought it was over! :goof:

Did something happen when he was in the elevator or was it something he saw in the lobby?

Hmm, has it something to do with the fact that elevator stops?

Did he get to the lobby?

Did anybody witness the death?
Was husband going to visit his wife?
Was husband a Doctor?
Did the power go out?
When the elevator stopped did the doors open?
Did the elevator reach it's intended floor when it stopped?

Yeah, I suppose the assumption is that if there are back-up generators they would also run the elevators. Which sounds good to me.

This story reminds me of Button Button by Matheson which is a little bit similar to it.

I found a website with a whole BUNCH of them. I might post another one . . . but I'm afraid they're all too easy (and therefore not much fun)!

If you know more 'mysteries', please do post them. We never get enough of these here :)
