View Full Version : How can there be secuirty if more police are hired?

There was in the news today, Virgina Tech, a student opened fire and kill 21 and wounded another 21 before he was shot.

And another day I saw the majors candiates, saying they will have more securities in all elementary, middle, and high schools. But is hireing more policeman really going to solve things?

Probably not.

But you have to admit that a college campus is a lot different the secondary schools where you have the ability to regulate who and what goes in the building. Of course that doesn't prevent things from happening outside of the building.

Interesting question, where does one begin, gun control, mental health programs....

I think I may be treading a little close to the political arena and I digress.

You know what would make a good story? A guy joins a forum where everybody is a moderator....except for him. Unaware of this fact, he can't figure out why his posts are constantly being edited for content and bounced from one subforum to another with seemingly no rhyme nor reason. His posts mysteriously disappear. Slowly but surely, he LOSES HIS MIND!

Yeah, and then he tries to talk about the problem with his friend, but they're all moderators too! Think about it! He tries to talk to a buddy about 17th century poetry, and his question winds up written on the board in his English classroom? He starts a conversation about politics and BAM!, his sister locks it down and it slowly sinks into oblivion.

LOLOLOLOLOLOL not even Orwell could have thought of this one!!!

I don't see where's the politic in this, it's more of a social issue... anyway to keep our glass cage from shattering, some topics are better be avoided indeed.

It got me wondering while I was reading it on the news, why always in America? (or most of the time, and when it's elsewhere it's mentioned 'like in the USA'). I'm sure there's no real answer and it's not possible to discuss it here anyway, so I guess I'm going to ask this question in other places as well.

Ok, I'd like to think that we can discuss this without straying into current politics.

Yes, gun control does need to be examined. BUT this is not the main issue here, there have been incidents in other countries of a similar nature - the ones that immediately come to mind for me are the events at Dawson College in Montreal last year, and those at Dunblane Primary School over a decade ago.

What we really need to do is once and for all have a proper discussion as to why people would do something like this, and without the media circus or demonisation of the individual as evil and not attempting to uncover why/how they got to the stage where they can do something like this.

That would be a phenomeon, that everyone is a moderator.

But that is not possible because look at democracy- it suppose to be run by the people yet it is run by specific people.

Well, people are people. If everyone'd run democracy, people wouldn't get anything done, constantly arguing with each other.

It is definitely run by the 'representatives' of the people. It's like - I choose somebody to run the government for me, I send some people to the parliament to raise issues that I have, on my behalf. It is not that some random people have decided on their own to do the work.

The mods are not chosen by the members (so it's not a democracy) -- If that's what you are trying to say, but they are not just any random people who have become mods, there are criterias for their selection (which I believe are fair, as I see them doing a good job), and members poll is not one of the basis.

representatives! I see a flaw but is very hard to see it. If representatives is full of trust and complete honestly I won't mind.

Basil that is hilarious.  What you forgetting is another segment in there where he's fighting with the moderators and he's fighting against everyone and they're all giving him infractions. :D :p

Actually this sounds like a 21st century version of a Kafka novel. ;)

No I don't want to fight the mods. ;) That is a losing proposition. I know. :p Just saw the humor, possible novel, and possible literary allusion in Basil's thought.

challenging the moderators mean challenging the politics which means certain doom, however in the situation of Muhammad Ali, what to say.

I know what you mean. Take, for instance, the blatant pro-Kitkat agenda promoted here at the forum. I once made a post pointing out that I thought Mr. Goodbar was a pretty good candy bar. Where is that post today? Gone. Down the memory hole.

You know, if you want to get banned so badly, you could just leave. But maybe if you ask Nightshade or Aimus really nicely, they'll do you a favor. I'm sure they're both anxious to give the Big Red Button a test drive.

Basil:

You have been warned time and time again not to promote Mr Goodbar here.

This is a KitKat, and only KitKat, friendly Forum and we will not tolerate other candy bars being championed.

Basil sat in his usual corner, gazing into an empty glass. Now and again he glanced up at a vast face which eyed him from the opposite wall. BIG SCHER IS WATCHING YOU, the caption said. Unbidden, a waiter came and filled his glass up with Victory Gin, shaking into it a few drops from another bottle with a quill through the cork.

...Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Scher.

i have a question about fire-arms in the USA. erh, i don't want to start of a discussion of politics, I'm just looking for facts:
i heard on the news that especially people in rural areas (e.g. Mid-West) buy lots of guns to "protect their family".
is it very dangerous to live in those areas? I thought there was more crime, burglars, rapists etc in the big cities? are there lots of burglaries and suchlike in the countryside?

I once answer to my teacher. Religion is one solution.
The fear of god brings upon order. But once they want to inquire the truth
and question about God, all chaos and crime has broken their cellars.

About the banned button. I don't want to commit sucide. I am just a scrifical lamb waiting to be slaughter by the immorals of moderation

no but the advertisments and promotion for the labels does make the spark.
But it seems that you have bought them, if you look closely how you promote them. OR they have bought you.
