There isn't one religious novel better or more classic than the best selling novel of all time.

My beloved Spurgeon's favorite book. He constantly references it in his sermons preached 1855-1892. I believe he read it over 100 times but don't have the sourse handy. From what I'm aware of and experienced it's a dead-on allegory of the walk of faith with all its pitfalls and blessings.

I tried The Pilgrim's Progress when I was about 13, and it was too much for me. The symbolism was too heavy. One of my favorite books, though, is C.S. Lewis's The Pilgrim's Regress, which is modeled after The Pilgrim's Progress (I'm sure you never would have guessed), so I will have to try it again.

Kurt Vonnegut', Jr's novel about his pilgrim, Billy Pilgrim did an even better job at telling the same story; i.e., Slaughterhouse Five.
